The Good You Can’t See
Well, shake the dust off the biscuit tin, friend! Look at you wanderin’ up on this ol’ front porch like you just stepped out of a cotton‑field breeze and found a place so peaceful even that plump ol’ turtle over yonder has paused mid‑shuffle like it’s tryin’ to offer you a proper how‑do‑you‑do. I’m mighty glad you made your way here. Pull up a seat and settle yourself in the way a calm ol’ river heron settles on a fallen log even when a jittery little ol’ barn sparrow keeps dartin’ around its feet like it owns the whole operation. Psalm 34:8 invites us to, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.“ Romans 8:28 reminds us that, “God works all things together for good for those who love Him.” And Isaiah 55:9 tells us, “God’s ways are higher than ours.” Them verses stand together like three tall cottonwood trees leanin’ into the same breeze, whisperin’ to every passerby that God’s goodness is steady even when life feels about as confusing as a lil’ ol’ calf tryin’ to make sense of a windmill.
Friend, God’s perfect will don’t always show up with a tidy blueprint tied up in a bow. Sometimes it arrives lookin’ about as puzzlin’ as a goat tryin’ to climb a greased stump. We see a tiny sliver of the picture while God sees the whole quilt spread out from edge to edge. There are moments when His plan feels plum upside down. A job loss. A heartbreak. A detour that makes no sense. But Scripture reminds us our perspective is limited. We’re peerin’ through a knothole while God sees the whole field.
James 1:17 tells us every good and perfect gift comes from above. That means even the hard things can be part of somethin’ good that’s still unfoldin’. God’s track record is flawless. He’s never failed His people, and He’s not about to start with you.
Friend, if you’re standin’ in a season that feels tangled, trust that God’s hands are mighty steady. His will is good. His timing is perfect. And His plan is bigger than anything you can see from your porch rail.
Lord, steady my heart when Your will doesn’t make sense. Help me trust Your goodness even when I can’t see the whole picture. Guide my steps, strengthen my faith, and remind me Your plan is always for my good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Well now, there it is, friend. I surely do hope this porch chat has settled into your spirit like a real cool drink of sweet tea on a warm Texas afternoon, and now the rest of your day is stretchin’ out like a long sunlit trail invitin’ a steady ol’ mule toward open country. Step into what comes next with the kind of quiet boldness a quail shows when it scoots out from under a cedar limb trustin’ the wide world to make room for it. Carry God’s goodness with you the way a seasoned ol’ beaver carries its timber, purposeful and unshaken by whatever splashes in the creek. And move forward with a heart that plum knows God’s work is already stirrin’ in places you ain’t even reached yet invitin’ you to keep goin’ with hope tucked under your arm like a trusted map.
With joy,
Gwen
