Raised to Life and Ready for the Day
Take a seat on the front porch swing, friend, and let’s talk about this wild, wonderful thing called being alive. Some mornings you wake up, stretch, sip your coffee, and think, “Well glory be! God has given me another day.” And that right there is a gift, one we ought never take for granted, not even on the days when our hair won’t behave and the dog tracked mud across the kitchen.
Paul reminds us in Ephesians 2:1 that before Jesus got ahold of us, we were dead in our sins, not “kinda tired,” not “spiritually sluggish,” but dead as a fencepost. And what does a dead man feel? Nothing. Nada. Zip. You could preach to him, sprinkle him, dunk him, or put his name on every church roll in Texas, and he still wouldn’t twitch.
That’s why salvation isn’t about polishing yourself up or memorizing enough verses to impress your Sunday School teacher. A dead person doesn’t need a lesson; he needs a resurrection, and only Jesus can pull that off.
In John chapter 3 we read the story of Nicodemus who tried the religious route. He knew Scripture backward and forward, and he lived cleaner than a freshly scrubbed skillet, but Jesus still told him, “You must be born again” (John 3:3). In other words: “Nicodemus, you don’t need a tune‑up. You need a whole new engine.”
That’s what grace does. It takes folks who were spiritually flatlined and breathes life into ’em. It turns cold hearts warm, blind eyes bright, and gives us a reason to wake up grateful every single morning.
So, before you rush into your day, pause and thank God for the miracle of being alive, really alive, not just walking around, but walking spiritually with Him because God doesn’t just hand out blessings. HE IS LIFE! When you put Him first, everything else starts lining up like just like those little ducklings following right behind a mama duck.
Lord, thank You for waking me up: body, mind, and soul. Keep my heart tender, my steps steady, and my eyes fixed on You. Make me fully spiritually alive in Your salvation and grace today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Now go on, friend, cherish this day. What a joy! It’s a very special gift straight from the Giver of Life, our Almighty, Blessed Savior and Lord Jesus Christ!
With joy,
Gwen
