Say It Anyway
Well, ain’t you a sight to be steppin’ through the yard gate, friend? Come on up here on this ol’ front porch before the wind gits to blowin’ you down the holler. Why don’t you pull up that ol’ rocker and git yourself settled real good because we’re about to be watchin’ a determined lil’ ol’ squirrel tryin’ to lead a Bible study for a circle of uninterested ol’ bullfrogs that won’t stop their croakin’. It’s real funny, it’s downright chaotic, and it’s exactly how life feels when trouble comes stompin’ across your front yard without even askin’ permission.
Today we’re talkin’ about trust, the kind of deep‑down, stubborn trust that Job held on to even when everything around him plum fell apart. Job 13:15 says, “Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him.” And to deepen this truth even further, Psalm 34:19 says, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” Friend, that there’s not just comfort. That’s rescue with steel-toed boots on.
Now, let’s brush off a couple of them bark‑chewin’ chipmunks right there that wandered up here lookin’ confused and get right to the heart of our chat today. Job sho’-nuff’ knew trouble. He lost his family, his wealth, his health, and even his spouse came at him with words plum sharp enough to make an ol’ porcupine flinch. Yet Job stood there, covered in grief and boils, and declared out loud, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” That ain’t quiet faith. That’s big ol’ bulldog faith. That there’s faith that downright refuses to sit down even when life knocks the wind plum out of you.
There’s somethin’ mighty powerful about speakin’ trust out loud. It’s like tellin your soul to straighten up when it feels wobblier than a newborn fawn on a slick hillside. Words shape belief. What you speak reinforces what you think. Psalm 56:3 slips right into this truth like a determined ol’ hound dog curlin’ up into a fresh patch of sunlight. It says, ‘When I am afraid, I will trust in You.’ Friend, that’s not quiet faith. That’s spoken faith. That’s the kind of faith that looks fear in the eye and says, ‘You’re not the boss of me.’ It is trust that gets stronger every time you give it a voice.”
Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” And Psalm 34:19 slides right in beside it like a lil’ ol’ barn cat findin’ the warmest windowsill. Trouble may come in bunches, but the Lord delivers us out of every single one.
So, say it out loud. Say it when your heart aches. Say it when your plans crumble. Say it when fear tries to boss you around.
“God, I don’t understand this, but I trust You.”
“Lord, this hurts, but I believe You have a plan.”
“Father, I can’t see the way forward, but I know You can.”
Speak trust until trust strengthens you.
Father, thank You for being faithful when life feels heavy. Thank You for hearing me when I speak trust out loud. Teach me to lean into Your presence, to rest in Your promises, and to keep declaring Your goodness no matter what comes my way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Merciful heavens, friend! You gotta go on out there and face your day like a busy ol’ woodpecker that finally picked the perfect tree to be workin’ on. Trouble may git to rattlin’ your world, but it can’t be rattlin’ the God who’s holdin’ you. Now, walk forward like a sturdy ol’ farm mule that plum knows its path and refuses to be rattled by whatever noise comes from the barn. Speak your trust in Him until your heart downright believes it. And remember, the Lord who delivers you out of every affliction is sho’-nuff’ walkin’ every single step beside you all the way.
With joy,
Gwen
