Never Forsaken
Well, bless my boots and pass me the butter for that warm cornbread so we can git to munchin’ on it, friend! Welcome up to this ol’ front porch and git yourself settled in real good because we’re about to be watchin’ as a wise ol’ barn owl as he’s tryin’ to give life advice to a bunch of lil’ ol’ jittery field mice. Life gits real noisy, life gits mighty wobbly, and sometimes life feels downright like it’s plum tryin’ to run you over with an ol’ farm tractor that forgot to git its brakes greased. That there’s exactly why Deuteronomy 31:6 matters so much. It says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.” And Psalm 94:14 says, “For the Lord will not reject His people. He will never forsake His inheritance.” Friend, that’s God’s way of sayin, “I am not goin’ anywhere,” even when your world feels shakier than an ol’ turkey gobbler standin’ on a greased log.
Now let’s brush off a couple of them busy porch beetles that wandered up here lookin’ for a revival service and get right to the heart of our discussion. In marriage counseling they tell you to avoid words like “never” and “always.” You know, “You never help with the dishes,” or “You always forget the trash.” Human behavior rarely fits those words.
But God is not human. Romans 3:4 reminds us, “Let God be true and every human being a liar.” When Moses tells us to be strong and courageous, he ain’t just handin’ out empty pep talks. He’s plum pointin’ us straight to the God who said, “Never will I leave you. Never will I forsake you.” And Psalm 94:14 slides right beside it like a lil’ ol’ barn cat findin’ a bowl of fresh milk waitin’ on the porch for him to drink. God won’t reject you. He won’t abandon you. He won’t wander off like a lil’ ol’ distracted goat that spotted a fresh patch of clover.
Friend, let this truth git to reshapin’ your day. Let it git to settlin’ into your heart like a lil’ creek‑side frog finally findin’ the perfect lily pad. God’s “never” is just no kind of emotional exaggeration. It’s downright eternal certainty. When fear tries to be bossin’ you around, remember that the Lord your God goes with you. When discouragement tries to drag you down, remember that He won’t be forsakin’ you. When life feels heavier than an ol’ mule carryin’ a big load of wet hay, remember that His presence ain’t fragile. It’s mighty faithful. It’s plum steady. It’s sho’-nuff’ yours.
Father, forgive me for the days I wander around as if You are far away. Help me grasp what it truly means that You will never leave me or forsake me. Teach me to trust Your promises, lean into Your presence, and walk with courage. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
