Followin’ the Right Openin’

Well now, I declare, friend, you came at just the right time. You’re plum a sight for sore eyes sho’-nuff’ up here on this ol’ front porch! Come settle yourself over here a lil’ spell. I’ve been thinkin’ about doors this mornin’, the kind life sets in front of us that look mighty invitin’, like a shiny latch on an ol’ barn that promises somethin’ good. But not every door is worth openin’. Some lead to emptiness quicker than a lil’ ol’ squirrel realizin’ it’s done jumped to the wrong branch.

First Samuel 12:21 says, “Do not turn aside, for then you would go after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing.” Samuel knew folks get tempted by things that look mighty promisin’ but end up about as hollow as a lil’ ol’ gopher hole in dry dirt. The world is plum full of doors that sparkle like a trout in sunlight, but behind ‘em sits nothin’ but disappointment.

Ol’ Jonah learned that lesson the hard way. He saw a ship sittin’ pretty at the dock and figured it was his ticket out. But an open door just ain’t always God’s door. Sometimes it’s just a goat gate left open by accident. Psalm 25:4 says, “Show me Your ways, O Lord, teach me Your paths.” We need the Lord to show us which doors lead to purpose and which ones lead to emptiness.

Life will offer you plenty of chances to force your way into places God plum never intended you to go. You can push, pry, and wiggle a latch like a determined ol’ mole tryin’ to dig where it shouldn’t be diggin’. But if God didn’t open that door, friend, you don’t want what’s behind it. His doors lead to peace, purpose, and blessin’. The world’s doors lead to hollowness, regret, and a whole lot of backtrackin’.

Father, thank You for guidin’ our steps and guardin’ our hearts. Teach us to follow only the doors You open and to turn away from empty things that cannot profit or deliver. Help us trust Your timing, Your wisdom, and Your leading. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Friend, you go on now and git yourself right on into the rest of your day with the calm confidence of a lil’ ol’ barn owl perched high above the noise up in them rafters. You gotta be seekin’ and lettin’ the Lord show you which doors are worth walkin’ through. His guidance shines clearer than sunrise spillin’ over a steep mountain ridge. Walk steady, trust deep, and keep your eyes on the doors He opens because those are the ones filled with the sweet goodness of God that’s waitin’ right there just for you.

With joy,

Gwen
