A Mind Set Higher

Well, paint my porch and call it Sunday, friend! You just wandered up here like a curious lil’ ol’ possum sniffin’ around for a fresh baked apple pie that got put out over there to be coolin’ on the windowsill. Now, come on over here and sit with me for a spell. I’ve been thinkin’ about the mind this mornin’, the way it can wander off like an ol’ curious goat that spotted an open gate. The Lord knew our thoughts needed help, which is why He gave us a truth steadier than an ol’ barn beam.

Romans 12:2 says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” The world tries to shape our thoughts the same way a lil’ ol’ woodpecker tries to shape a tree, peckin’ and poundin’ until we start thinkin’ like everybody and everything around us. But the Lord plum calls us to somethin’ better. He calls us to love Him with our whole mind. Mark 12:30 says, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” That there means our thoughts sho’-nuff’ matter. They steer our steps the way a shepherd steers sheep away from a muddy ditch.

And Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Friend, that plum means our thoughts should rise higher than a lil’ ol’ barn owl perched on the rafters. When we set our minds on the Lord, He transforms us from the inside out. He renews our thinkin’ the way spring rain renews a thirsty field. He shifts our focus from worry to worship, from fear to faith, from chaos to calm.

Renewin’ the mind ain’t no one‑time chore. It’s daily work, like keepin’ a stubborn lil’ ol’ gopher out of the garden. But the Lord helps us. He guides our thoughts. He strengthens our hearts. He teaches us to think His way, not the world’s way.

Father, thank You for renewing our minds and redirecting our thoughts. Thank You for teachin’ us to love You with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Help us think Your thoughts, walk in Your truth, and live with a mind set on things above. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Friend, you go on out there now and stroll right on into the rest of your day with a mind clearer than a bright mountain mornin’. Let your thoughts rise like sunlight climbin’ on up over a ridge. Hold tight to the truth that God is shapin’ your thinkin’, steadyin’ your steps, and guidin’ your heart. Walk on now, friend, because the Lord has already prepared some of His special goodness right on of ahead of you.
