Faith at Home
Mercy sakes alive,, friend, settle yourself right on in for a moment and deeply breathe in this truth: the Lord is right there with you. His presence fills your day like sunlight warming a porch swing, steadying your heart with peace and joy. You are never walking this life alone.
Jesus once said, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house” (Mark 6:4). And if anyone understood that it was His own family.
Now imagine growin’ up as the half-brother of Jesus. Bless your heart, you couldn’t blame Him for anything. Who would your parents believe, you, or the one child who never fibbed, never fussed, and never once rolled His eyes? Talk about a tough act to follow.
That was James’s, the brother of Jesus, life. And Scripture tells us plainly that Jesus’ brothers didn’t believe in Him at first (John 7:5). At one point, they even tried to bring Him home, thinkin’ He’d lost His mind. But then came the resurrection: earth‑shaking, heart‑shifting, undeniable. And suddenly James wasn’t just the brother of Jesus; he was His servant. When he wrote his letter, he didn’t say, “James, brother of the Lord.” He said, “James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.” That’s humility wrapped in revelation.
It’s somethin’, isn’t it? Jesus lived a perfect life right in front of them, and still they didn’t believe until God opened their eyes. Makes you realize that even our best behavior won’t always convince the people closest to us. And for those of us tryin’ to share the gospel with family, that can feel mighty discouragin’.
But take heart. If it took the resurrection to reach Jesus’ own brothers, then don’t be surprised if your loved ones need time, patience, and a whole lot of prayer. The gospel still carries power, and God still knows how to reach a heart.
Lord, thank You for salvation and for the love You’ve poured into my life. Give me wisdom as I share that love with my family and friends. Let my words be gentle, my actions sincere, and my heart steady in Your grace. Prepare the soil of their hearts, and let my life point them toward Jesus. In His holy name, I pray. Amen.
Today, pause and praise God for the blessings He’s poured over your life, and let His love spill over onto the people closest to you.
With joy,
Gwen
