You Ain’t Goin’ That Way!

Mercy me, sweet pea, here’s hopin’ you rolled on outta that there bed today like you’re steppin’ onto the porch at sunrise, breathin’ in that sweet morning air and knowin’ God’s love is already fussin’ over you like a grandma with a casserole. Let Him guide your heart so you don’t spend the day wanderin’ around like a hound dog tryin’ to herd butterflies.

Jesus said, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back ain’t fit for the Kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). That’s His heavenly way of sayin’, “Eyes front, friend’. You can’t plow straight while gawkin’ at what’s behind you.”

Take the Israelites, bless their hearts. God got ’em out of Egypt in one night, but it took forty years to get Egypt outta them. Soon as things got tough, they started hollerin’, “We wanna go back!” like kids fussin’ for their old blankie. They forgot the misery, the bondage, the whole hot mess—and remembered only the biscuits.

Some folks today do the same thing. They talk about the “good old days” before they knew Jesus like they were livin’ in some kind of sparkly wonderland. But nostalgia’s got a way of puttin’ lipstick on a pig. Those weren’t glory days; they were just days. And half of ’em hurt real bad.

Lookin’ back can stir up old fears, old habits, old heartaches. It’ll make you forget how far God’s brought you and blind you to where He’s takin’ you. You can’t walk forward while rubber‑neckin’ behind you. Even ol’ Satchel Paige said, “Don’t look back. Somethin’ might be gainin’ on ya.” And he wasn’t wrong.

God’s plan for you ain’t back there in the rearview mirror. It’s up ahead  fresh, bright, and tailor‑made. World changers look forward. They see bridges where others see walls. They see opportunities where others see obstacles. It’s all about perspective, like whether you see a mud puddle or a chance to splash.

Father, thank You for the sweet moments of my past, but don’t let me live there. Help me see that the best You have for me is in the steps I take today. When nostalgia tugs at me, remind me You’re doin’ a new thing. Give me courage, clarity, and hope for the road ahead. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

So, breathe deep, stand tall, and go on now and be a blessing to somebody today. You’re built for forward motion.

With joy,

Gwen
