Call on Him
Well now, today is a fresh‑from‑Heaven gift, wrapped up in sunrise and handed straight to you. And don’t you forget that God isn’t off in the distance somewhere, pacing among the clouds. His help is closer than your next breath or your next prayer. You don’t have to haul life’s heavy loads by yourself. Just ask Him, and He’ll step right in with guidance, strength, and a whole lot of comfort.
Take King Jehoshaphat, bless his heart. One morning he wakes up to news that a massive army is marching his way. It’s way bigger than anything Judah could handle. This wasn’t just a bad day; this was the “worst‑case‑scenario, hide‑the‑kids, grab‑the‑flashlight” kind of trouble. And what did Jehoshaphat do? Well, he didn’t call a committee meeting or sharpen swords. Scripture says he begged the Lord for guidance (2 Chronicles 20:3). That’s southern for, “Lord, we’re in a pickle, and we need You quick.”
His prayer was honest: “We don’t know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” And God answered with the kind of reassurance that’ll steady your knees: “Don’t be afraid. This battle isn’t yours—it’s Mine. Take your position, stand still, and watch what I’m about to do” (2 Chronicles 20:15, 17).
So, Jehoshaphat marched out, but put the worship team in front. Now that’s faith. And wouldn’t you know it? When they started singing, the enemy armies got so mixed up they took each other out. Judah didn’t even have to swing a stick.
There’s a whole sermon in that, but here’s the short version: God knows how to handle what you can’t. Even when you don’t see a way, He already has one. Call on Him. Then, stand still and watch Him work.
While Jehoshaphat knew trouble was coming, we don’t always get that heads‑up, but God does. That’s why staying close to Him matters. He prepares us for battles we don’t even know are on the calendar.
“The Lord is close to all who call on Him.” (Psalm 145:18)
Lord, thank You for being my steady refuge. When I call, You answer. When I’m unsure, You guide. When I’m weary, You hold me up. My hope rests in Your faithful hands. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Now step right on out into this day with confidence because the One who holds the universe is holding you, too.
With joy,
Gwen
