The Battle Belongs to the Lord

Every sunrise is God’s way of whispering, “Alright now, let’s give this another go.” So, step into today with hope, courage, and maybe an extra biscuit or two. Spiritual battles are easier on a full stomach.

We all know the David and Goliath story. Folks use it for everything: sports, politics, even when your tiny dog barks at the neighbor’s Great Dane. But truth is, there never was a “David versus Goliath” battle. David said it himself: “This is the Lord’s battle” (1 Samuel 17:47). Translation: “Y’all, I’m just the delivery boy. God’s doing the heavy lifting.  God is the real hero here!”

David didn’t walk out there thinking, “Watch me impress everybody.” He knew he didn’t stand a chance on his own. Meanwhile, the trained soldiers were shaking so hard their armor probably rattled like a toolbox in the back of a pickup. But David? He looked at Goliath like, “Buddy, you have severely underestimated my God today.”

The enemy seems to be working overtime these days. If the devil had a punch card, he’d be earning double pay. That’s why we’ve got to stay close to the Lord. We’re not meant to fight spiritual battles with homemade strategies by watching YouTube “how-to” videos or hoping on a “wing and a prayer.” We need God’s strength, not our own.

Paul reminds us to toss off the junk weighing us down and put on the armor of right living (Ephesians 10:6-18). You can’t fight for God while trying to keep one foot in the world. That’s like trying to march in two directions. You’ll end up tired, confused, and probably walking in circles.

The good news: is an echoing victory shout rang out when Jesus cried, “It is finished.” It wasn’t a whisper. It was Heaven’s blaring mic drop! Because of this, we get to stand strong, fight smart, and walk in confidence.

Life with God as your Commander‑in‑Chief is never boring. You’ll have stories to tell. Ask yourself: "How can I stop trying to fight my battles alone?"

Heavenly Father, I’m tired of swinging at giants by myself. I surrender my fears and my need to control. The battle belongs to You. Be my strength, my shield, and my peace. Lead me, protect me, and fight for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Take a moment today to thank God for the battles He’s already won, even the ones you didn’t know you were in!

With joy,

Gwen
