Be Available

It’s time to let that little ole’ light of yours shine brightly today, friend. You never know who might be needing a bit of your warmth. In 1 Samuel 3:19 a little line says, “The Lord was with Samuel, and everything he said proved true.” Just makes you wonder, doesn’t it? Why Samuel? What made God choose him in such a mighty way?

Well, Scripture gives us a peek. Given back to God by a grateful, praying momma who’d once been barren, little Samuel grew up helping old Eli, the high priest, in the tabernacle. One night, Samuel heard his name called. Thinking it’s Eli, he jumped up and ran to him. It happened again. And again. Bless his little heart, that young boy was ready to serve before he even knew who was calling.

Then the fourth time, Samuel finally said, “Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening.” That right there is the whole secret! God used Samuel because Samuel was available right in the middle of the night, groggy, sleepy-eyed, no questions asked. Just ready.

We could learn a whole bunch from that right there. God ain’t lookin’ for the most talented or the strongest. He’s lookin’ for folks who’ll say, “Lord, I’m here. Use me anytime, anywhere.” You don’t have to be impressive. You just have to be willing. God does His best work through folks who know they need Him.

If you want God to use you, put yourself where people are. Keep your eyes open for little nudges from the Holy Spirit, and don’t be surprised if God calls your name when you least expect it. He’s been known to do just that.

Father, take my heart and shape it. Fill me with Your Spirit. Let my words lift others up and my actions show Your love. Open my eyes to where You’re working and give me courage to join You. Make me a light in dark places and a calm in the storm. Wherever You lead, I’ll follow. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let your heart stay light today. God’s walking right there beside you.

With joy,

Gwen
