You Gotta Git Movin’
Well, hello there, friend. I am so tickled that you decided to drop by this ol’ front porch to visit for a little bit. Now, I’ve got to be askin’ you if you’ve ever seen a lil’ ol’ squirrel tryin’ to decide if it wants to cross the road? It plum twitches, freezes, rethinks its whole existence, then bolts like it just remembered it left the oven on in its nest. That’s how some of us act when God nudges us to take a step of faith. We stand there blinkin’ like a confused ol’ barn owl wonderin’ if the Lord might send a skywriter to confirm His instructions. But Proverbs 3:5‑6 reminds us to trust the Lord with all our heart and stop leaning on our own understanding, which is good because my sense of understandin’ gits to wobblin’ around like a lil’ ol’ three‑legged goat tryin’ to figure out how to walk on a trampoline.
A lot of folks say they want to be learnin’ how to swim, but they never do git past danglin’ their toes in the shallow end of the pool. They read all them books, watch all them videos, and ask a whole bunch of people that smell like pool chemicals year‑round for some real good advice. But friend, until you git out there and actually git wet, you’re just a dry spectator with empty opinions. Faith plum works the same way. You can attend every conference this side of the county line, but until you move, you’re just standing’ on the divin’ board arguin’ with gravity.
James 2:17 puts it real plain. “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” That there means faith without movement is like a lil’ ol’ rooster that refuses to crow. It looks the part, but it’s not doing what it was made to do. And Psalm 37:23 slips in beside it, reminding us that “the steps of a man are established by the Lord when he delights in His way.” God establishes steps, but He can’t establish a step we never take.
Maybe God’s already shown you the next thing, but you’re perched on the edge like a nervous ol’ tom turkey gobbler that’s not sure if it can fly. Maybe He’s done pointed you toward somethin’, but you’re waitin’ for certainty to fall right out of the sky like pinecones in a windstorm.
Certainty usually comes after takin’ the step, not before takin’ it. And that’s why Isaiah 30:21 fits this moment like a glove. It says, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way. Walk in it.’” In other words, God don’t just give directions from a distance. He plum whispers guidance as you go. He plum speaks while your feet are movin’. He plum directs while your faith is stretchin’. He plum steadies you while you’re wobblin’ like a lil’ ol’ newborn baby calf tryin’ to stand for the first time.
Here’s the plain truth. Isaiah 30:21 reminds us that God whispers guidance while we walk, not while we stand frozen like a deer starin’ at a lawnmower. And Hebrews 11:8 gives us a livin’, breathin’ example of that kind of faith. “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he was going.” Abraham didn’t wait for a five‑year plan or a color‑coded map. He moved because God said to move. That’s the kind of faith that turns a tremblin’ first step into a God‑directed journey.
Lord, give me the courage to move when You whisper. Help me trust Your wisdom more than my worries. Teach me to take the step even when I can’t see the whole path. Establish my steps and steady my heart as I follow You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Faith is like a good lantern that only shines when you make the effort lift it up. It’s like a creek that only moves when somethin’ stirs it. Go right on ahead and take the step. God’s already right there on the path just ahead of you, right beside you, right behind you, right below you, and right above you. And He’ll be with you every step of the way.
