When We Become Who We Were Meant to Be
Well now, friend, come on over here and have a comfy seat beside me up here on this front porch, and try not to swat at that honey bee buzzin’ ‘round like it is a‑tryin’ to register complaints about your perfume ‘cause we’re ‘bout to step into a truth shinier than a fresh jar of peach preserves. Have you ever watched a quilter a‑leanin’ over her work, her needle would be a‑dancin’ like a jittery cricket at a barn dance? Every scrap looks like it came from a possum’s messy yard sale, yet somehow she stitches it into somethin’ so fine even your best friend would be honored to take a nap on it. That’s how the Lord handles our future. He takes all our earthly scraps and promises to turn them into somethin’ really glorious.
John tells us in 1 John 3:2, “Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.” That’s Bible speak telling us that we can know that we are His children, but the full reveal of what we will be is still tucked away like a surprise pie coolin’ behind grandma’s flour canister. We do know this much. We will be like Jesus. Not sorta like Him. Not “kinda resembles Him if you squint real hard.” No, we will see Him as He is, and somethin’ about that sight will transform us quicker than a junebug a‑realizin’ it flew into the wrong porch light.
Down here, our bodies get tired, achy, cranky, and sometimes behave like a stubborn mule a‑refusin’ to budge. Jesus knew all that earthly limitation, too. He got hungry, thirsty, sleepy, and worn out. But after His resurrection, He moved with a freedom that made His disciples scratch their heads like confused chickens. He appeared in rooms without usin’ a door. He rose straight into the clouds like He had heavenly elevator privileges.
Will we do all that? Scripture does not say. But 1 Corinthians 2:9 reminds us that “no eye has seen and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.” And 2 Corinthians 5:1-4 promises that “our earthly tents will be traded in for heavenly homes tailor‑made by God Himself.”
Father, thank You for the promise of a new body and a new life with You. Help me live with hope, joy, and expectation. Shape my heart while I wait. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now, friend, as you head on back into your day like a bluebird a‑tryin’ to recall which branch it meant to land on, hold close to your heart that God just is not finished with you yet. Your future is brighter than a rooster greetin’ sunrise. And one day, you will see Jesus as He truly is, and you will be more like Him than you have ever dreamed.
With joy,
Gwen
