Trust and Obey

Well, land sakes, cupcake, pull up a rocking chair and set that good ol’sweet tea down before it goes ‘a-leapin’ right  outta your hand, because today we’re ’a-talkin’ about trustin’ God’s plan even when life feels about as predictable as a rooster with mood swings. Some days the road ahead looks foggier than a possum ‘a-tryin’ to cross the highway at dusk. One minute you’re ‘a-strollin’ along like a cheerful little field mouse, and the next you’re ‘a-wonderin’ how in the world you wound up in a briar patch.

In Mark 14:33–36, Jesus wasn’t just ‘a-havin’ a rough evenin’. He was ‘a-facin’ the heaviest night any soul has ever known. While we get rattled over burnt biscuits or a raccoon’a- givin’ us that side‑eyed look at the trash can, Jesus was ‘a-lookin’ straight into the full weight of the world’s sin, and He knew it was about to land right square on His shoulders.

He knew Peter would be denin’ Him faster than a rooster can crow (Mark 14:30). He knew Judas was ‘a-bringin’ that kiss of betrayal (Mark 14:43–45). He knew the disciples would be ‘a-scatterin’ like chickens who just spotted a hungry fox (Mark 14:50). And He knew the cross was ‘a-comin’ with all its pain, shame, and separation.

But the hardest part? For the first time in eternity, His perfect communion with the Father would be interrupted. That’s what was ‘a-makin’  Him tremble in Gethsemane, not the nails, not the crowd, not the cross. But it was the separation.

So, He prayed the most honest, heart‑wide‑open prayer ever spoken: “Abba, Father… everything is possible for You. Take this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.” (Mark 14:36)

After prayin’ it through, Jesus stood up, brushed the garden dirt off His knees, and walked straight toward God’s will like a determined little goat finally decidin’ to cross the creek even though the water is ‘a-lookin’ mighty cold.

And that right there is the picture of Psalm 37:5: “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.” Jesus didn’t just preach it. He lived it, and because He did, we have hope brighter than a June firefly show.

We’ll never be ‘a-facin’ what Jesus was ‘a-facin’, but we will be ‘a-facin’ moments when God’s Will feels about as comfortable as ridin’ a porcupine bare‑legged. Sometimes He removes the hardship. Sometimes He hands us strength to walk through it. Either way, His plan is steady, sure, and trustworthy.

Father, give me courage to trust Your will even when I don’t understand it. Strengthen me when the path feels heavy, guide me when the way is unclear, and help me lean on Your love instead of fear. Thank You for Jesus’ example of surrender. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Alright now, friend, as you step back into your day, mosey on down the road like a squirrel who just remembered where he buried his best acorn, and trust that the same God who carried Jesus through Gethsemane is ‘a-carryin’ you too, steady as a mama bear ‘a-guardin’ her lil’ baby cubs.

With joy,

Gwen
