That Divine Tug

Some mornings the Holy Spirit has a way of slipping up on you the way a summer breeze sneaks across a front porch: quiet, gentle, and just cool enough to make you lean back in your chair and say, “Well now, ain’t that somethin’?” Other times He barrels through like a wind gust strong enough to send your hat skippin’ down the driveway, and there you are chasin’ it like you’re tryin’ to beat the dinner bell. But whether He whispers or whooshes, He’s always movin’ you along, steady as a mule plowin’ a straight row, nudgin’ your heart toward the good things God’s been settin’ up for you since before you could tie your own shoes.

Jesus put it plain in John 6:44: “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws them.” And that “drawing” isn’t a shove, a shout, or a spiritual cattle prod. It’s more like when your grandma hooks her finger in your collar and says, “Come here, sweetie.” You don’t know how you know, but you know you’ve been summoned.

Have you ever felt that tug? That holy pull that makes your heart sit up straight like it just heard its name over the loudspeaker at the county fair? It’s not guilt. It’s not pressure. It’s conviction, the kind that lets you know you’re a sinner in need of a Savior, but somehow you’re not terrified, just tender.

I’ve seen folks wander down front at the end of a service lookin’ like they weren’t entirely sure how their legs carried them there. The pastor asks, “Why’d you come?” They shrug, “I dunno. I just felt like I was supposed to.” That’s the Holy Spirit, quiet as a whisper, sure as sunrise, drawin’ folks to Jesus one gentle tug at a time.

You can resist it. You can ignore it. You can stuff it down like last year’s Christmas decorations, but you can’t manufacture it. This isn’t Sunday‑school trivia or head knowledge. This is God Himself tappin’ on your heart and sayin’, “Hey, now! Come this way.”

So, if you’re feelin’ that holy tug today, don’t brush it off. That’s the Spirit doin’ what only He can do. Turn from your sin. Trust Christ. Let Him do the heart‑mendin’, life‑shapin’ work you can’t do yourself.

Lord, thank You for that holy tug You place on our hearts. Give us ears to hear You, courage to follow You, and a spirit willing to say, “Yes,” when You draw us close. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Now, as you step into this day, don’t be surprised if the Spirit gives your heart a little nudge, soft as a tap on the screen door or firm as a hand on your shoulder. His leading is never random. It’s a holy setup for your good and God’s glory. So, lean into that gentle drawin’. Even if your knees wobble, the One who’s tugging you forward is the same One walkin’ every step beside you.

With joy,

Gwen
