The Straight Path to Blessin’

Hey, there, friend! Hurry and git on up here! Ain’t you a sight for sore eyes today! This here ol’ front porch is friendlier than an ol’ hound dog that’s been waitin’ all day for somebody to scratch behind its ears. Come on over and pull up a rocker so you can git settled in because we’re sittin’ out here watchin’ that skittish lil’ coyote behind the big toolbox tryin’ real hard to teach a bunch of stubborn lil’ wild turkey hens how to form a straight line for his Sunday potluck meal. If that sight don’t git you to grinnin’ at least a smidge, it’ll sure remind you how life gits to feelin’ when folks wander plum sideways from God’s ways and start actin’ like they forgot which end of the map points north.

Today we’re sittin’ with Ecclesiastes 12:13 which says, “Fear God and obey His commands, for this is everyone’s duty.” And to deepen this truth, Psalm 119:2 says, “Blessed are those that keep His testimonies, that seek Him with the whole heart.” Friend, that there’s God’s way of sayin’, “Walk in My ways, and you will find joy you did not know you were missin’.”

Now, let’s shoo away them lil’ ol’ crickets that hopped up here lookin’ for some kind of a revival meetin’ and get right to the heart of our talk. Our nation’s beginnin’s were shaped by folks who believed liberty needed virtue, and virtue needed God. That sho’-nuff’ is a far cry from where we are today. We need a biblical worldview like an ol’ thirsty mule needs a bucket of water. We can either accept God’s truth or fight against it, but either way we’ll be reapin’ the results. Scripture don’t bend just because we do. As one old preacher said, “You don’t break God’s laws, you break yourself against them. Jump off a tall buildin’, and you don’t break gravity. You plum break your neck.”

Psalm 34:4 steps in here like a calm lil’ deer wanderin’ out of the woods at just the right moment sayin’, “I sought the Lord, and He answered me. He delivered me from all my fears.” Friend, when we buck against God’s ways, fear rises. When we seek Him, peace rises. God’s commands ain’t no shackles. They’re guardrails that keep us from rollin’ down the mountain like a runaway barrel. He downright knows how we’re wired. He knows what brings “soul‑deep” joy. His commands lead us toward the kind of peace that don’t depend on moods, headlines, or the latest fuss in the henhouse.

Obedience keeps us real steady. It keeps us real balanced. It keeps us real close to the Father. And just like our country was meant to honor His ways, our lives were meant to flourish under ‘em, too. We can do it the easy way or the hard way, but the choice is ours.

Father, help me seek You with my whole heart. Teach me to love Your commands and walk in Your ways. Show me the wisdom in obedience and steady my steps when I wander. Let Your peace settle deep in my spirit. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Well now, land sakes alive, friend, as you git to steppin’ right on into the rest of your day, you gotta be walkin’ like a real sure‑footed mountain elk that finally found a trail worth followin’. Let God’s truth guide you like a bright lantern glowin’ way out in a dark holler, showin’ you where the rocks are hidin’ and where the path opens wide. Let obedience steady you like a strong oak tree root holdin’ firm in a storm, keepin’ you upright when life starts blowin’ sideways. And remember, the God that gave you His commands also gave you His heart, and He’ll lead you right on toward the life you were made to be livin’, the kind that fills your soul deeper than a well dug in good soil.

With joy,

Gwen
