Thankful Hearts Find Peace

Well, looky here, friend. If you’re brave enough to step up this path, then you must be plum brave enough to step inside this here yard fence. Now, look right over there and be watchin’ out for that lil’ ol’ feisty rooster. That rascal bites, and he pecks, too, and he does it with the kind of enthusiasm that’d make a lil’ ol’ woodpecker jealous. Well, look at you! You’ve made it without a scratch, which tells me you’ve either got quick feet or the Lord’s favor. So now, come on up to this ol’ front porch and settle in because we’re gonna be watchin’ a determined little ol’ squirrel tryin’ to teach a rowdy bunch of blue jays how to behave during Sunday church service.

Life can get just that chaotic when worries start struttin’ around your mind before your day even gets goin’. That there’s exactly how life gits to feelin’ when troubles start crowin’ louder than a barnyard at sunrise before your feet even hit the floor. And right in the middle of all that ruckus, Psalm 34:4 steps in like a calm ol’ deer wanderin’ out of the woods at just the right moment. It says, “I sought the Lord, and He answered me. He delivered me from all my fears.” Friend, that there means when your worries start hollerin’ louder than a barnyard at sunrise, you can seek the Lord and He’ll answer. He plum knows how to quiet fears that try to take over your day before it even gets started.

Today we’re gonna be sittin’ with Philippians 4:6, which says, “Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.” And Psalm 62:8 says, “Trust in Him at all times, you people. Pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.” That’s God’s way of sayin, “Bring it here. I can hold what you cannot.”

Now, let’s git to swattin’ them ol’ pine weevils that’ve come wanderin’ up here lookin’ for some kind of a prayer meetin’ and get right to the heart of our talk. Paul tells us not to worry about anything and instead pray about everything. That sounds real simple until life starts throwin’ curveballs like a mischievous ol’ raccoon tossin’ leftovers off the back porch. Worries about tomorrow sneak in like a lil’ ol’ fox slippin’ through a fence gap. Regrets from yesterday git to clingin’ to you like a sticker burr. And sometimes your heart’feels heavier than an ol’ mule carryin’ a big load of feed sacks.

That’s why Paul gives us a real simple plan. Tell God what you need. Thank Him for what He’s already done. It ain’t complicated. It ain’t fancy. It ain’t only reserved for people who have their lives perfectly lined up like them ol’ ducks that like to be walkin’ in a row. It’s plum for the weary, the overwhelmed, the distracted, and the ones who feel like their prayers sound more like sighs than sentences. Pour out your heart to Him. Trust Him at all times. He’s your refuge when life gits to feelin’ way too loud.

Here’s the promise. If you’ll start tellin’ God your needs and thankin’ Him for His goodness, Paul says in Philippians 4:7 that you will experience God’s peace, the kind that guards your heart and mind like a faithful ol’ farm dog watchin’ over the yard. It’s simple. It’s real powerful. And it’s available right now, today.

Father, I will start today. I will tell You my needs. I will come to You and share my heart. And then I will be thankful for what You are doing. As I do, please help me experience Your peace in my heart and mind. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Well now, Friend, before you git to moseyin’ off this porch, go ahead and step into the rest of your day like a calm ol’ beaver that finally found a quiet stretch of river with no logs jammin’ up its peace. Let God’s steady peace settle over you like a gentle mist rollin’ across a cool mountain hollow. Let gratitude rise in you like a patch of wildflowers pushin’ up through fresh spring soil after a long winter. And remember, the God who listens when you pour out your heart is already leanin’ in real close, ready to shoulder every burden that tries to hitch a ride on your back. So. go on out there now, Friend, walk forward with a rested mind and a thankful spirit, knowin’ He’s carryin’ what you never could.

With joy,

Gwen
