Let Love Prove Who You Belong to

Come on up here on this here front porch, friend, and sit with me for a little ‘ole spell. The morning’s just ‘a-wakin’ up, the coffee’s still ‘a-talkin’ in the pot, and the good Lord’s handed you another beautiful day like a real warm, fresh‑baked apple pie kind of blessing with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top. Let faith anchor your thoughts before the world starts hollerin’. When God’s your foundation even the biggest obstacle looks more like a plain ‘ole speed bump.

Now Jesus once said something that’d make even your grandpa blink twice: “If you only love the folks who love you back, well golllll‑ly, that ain’t anything special.” Luke 6:32–35 reminds us that anybody can be kind to the kind. Even the roughest fellas down at the feed store can manage that.

But Jesus calls us higher, way, way higher. He says “love your enemies, do good to the difficult ones, lend to folks who can’t pay you back” (Luke 6:32-35). That’s when the ‘ole smart-alec barnyard rooster would flap his wings and shout, “I say, now THAT’S real Christianity, boy!” Because loving the unlovely is where God’s fingerprints show up, we gotta be payin’ attention right here, for sure.

It’s easy to be sweet when folks are sweet to you. But when someone’s pricklier than a cactus patch, that’s where the Holy Spirit rolls up His sleeves. Kindness becomes more than a polite gesture. It becomes a miracle in motion, and every time you choose compassion over retaliation, Heaven “shorely” nods in approval.

Praying for kindness isn’t just a spiritual warm‑up. It’s how God softens your heart, steadies your reactions, and turns you into a walking billboard for His grace. Kindness changes you first, and then it changes the world around you.

Father, thank You for Your Word that guides my steps. Help me love even those who don’t love me back. Fill me with patience, compassion, and the courage to respond with Your kindness in every situation. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen.

Now step on off this here porch and right on into your big ‘ole day remembering this: anybody can love the lovable, but only a child of God can love like Jesus. Today, you’ll meet someone who needs grace, someone who needs patience, someone who needs kindness they didn’t earn. Give it freely. Give it joyfully. Give it because your Father has given it to you first. Let your love prove who you belong to!

With joy,

Gwen
