Goodness that Never Runs Dry

Howdy, friend! Land sakes, come on up this front porch and rest yourself a spell. I have been lookin’ forward to your footsteps crunchin’ up this path like a squirrel that finally decided to stop fussin’ with acorns and come visit. Pull up that rocker that creaks louder than a cranky gate that has seen more winters than it cares to count. Mercy me, it’s a pleasure to have you stop by, and I reckon today’s word is fixin’ to settle into your heart like a warm quilt fresh off the line on a cool mountain mornin’.

Psalm 34:8 says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Friend, that verse slips into the soul like a spoonful of peach cobbler that came out of the oven at just the right moment. God’s goodness is not shy. It plum shows up in the sunrise, in the breath you just took, and in blessin’s so quiet they plum tiptoe through your day like a lil’ ol’ chipmunk that don’t want to be noticed. Romans 8:28 reminds us that “God works all things for good,” even when life feels like a briar patch that grabbed hold of your britches and refused to let go.

Lamentations 3:22-23 tells us “His mercies are new every morning.” That truth shines brighter than a lantern hung high on a porch post at dusk. Philippians 1:6 assures us that “God finishes what He starts,” steady as a lil’ ol’ barn cat that never loses track of the mouse it is chasin’. His goodness don’t flicker. It don’t wobble. It stands real firm in every season, even when our hearts feel wobbly as a lil’ ol’ newborn calf tryin’ to find its legs.

Psalm 119:68 says, “You are good, and what You do is good.” Friend, that verse settles deep, reminding us that God’s goodness is not a mood. It is His nature. Hardships can shape us like a potter shaping clay, even when the pressure feels heavier than a water trough filled to the brim. And here is a fresh truth to tuck into your pocket. Nahum 1:7 says, “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble.” That promise stands tall, strong as a mountain ridge that refuses to crumble. And James 1:17 tells us, “Every good and perfect gift is from above.” Those giftsplum  show up in ways that surprise us, like a lil’ ol’ deer that wandered into the yard just to remind you beauty still exists.

Experiencing God’s goodness is a daily practice. It’s noticing blessin’s woven through your day like threads in a handmade quilt. It’s trusting His strength when yours feels thin as a fence rail worn down by years of weather. It’s choosin’ gratitude, obedience and reflection, knowin’ Philippians 4:13 gives you strength for every step.

Father, thank You for Your unchanging goodness. Help me to trust You in every circumstance, to see Your mercy and grace in my life, and to reflect Your goodness to those around me. I walk each day in confidence, knowing Your plans are always for my good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Well alright now, friend, now that this truth has settled into you like a firefly glow tucked inside a mason jar, you’re fixin’ to spend the rest of your day with a heart steadied by God’s goodness. You’ve gotta be holdin’ onto courage the way a determined little hedgehog guards its favorite patch of clover. You’ve gotta be keepin’ hope alive the way a wise old owl keeps watch from its favorite branch, knowin’ the night never lasts forever. And you’ve gotta be livin’ out faith strong and sure, the way a sturdy oak stands tall even when the wind fusses at it. Friend, this truth is yours now, and you’ve gotta be  usin’ it to shape every thought, every choice and every quiet moment ahead like a skilled woodcarver shaping a piece of cedar into somethin’ worth keepin’.

With joy,

Gwen
