God’s Not Through With You Yet
Well, what you be ‘a-thinkin’ ‘bout that? The Lord done rolled out another good day like a fresh, sweet-smellin’ hay bale, and He’s invitin’ you to be ‘a-climbin’ right up on it, so you can be ‘a-seein’ what He is a‑workin’ on. John 3:16 reminds us that God done loved this here world so much that He done gave His only Son. That there is love a whole lot deeper than a stock tank after a big ol’ a Texas rainstorm.
Now let’s be ‘a-talkin’ ‘bout Peter. Bless that fella’s heart, he had a real bad night in Gethsemane that done went downhill faster than a goat on a greased slide. First, he done fell asleep when Jesus done asked him to stay awake. Then, he done whipped out a sword and sliced off a man’s ear like he was a‑practicin’ for a county fair demonstration. And later that same night, he done denied even ‘a-knowin’ Jesus three whole times. Three whole times! Wow! That there’s more times than a real responsible rooster does his best crowin’ before breakfast.
But here’s the real good news. We can sure see Peter’s mess ups, but God was ‘a-seein’ who Peter was gonna become. We see a real jumpy, not real trustful Simon, but God done saw a hard rock-solid apostle. We see Jacob, the schemer, but God done saw Israel, the man of faith. We see Joseph. the naïve dreamer, but God done saw a leader who was gonna save nations. Joseph even said, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Genesis 30:20). That is someone who done learned to trust the Potter while he was still a‑spinnin on the wheel.
And that is you, too. You might be ‘a-seein’ a mess, but God is ‘a-seein a real masterpiece. You might be ‘a-feelin’ like a bumpy lump of clay, but He is ‘a-seein’ the vessel you gonna be becomin’. Most artists don’t want folks to be ‘a-peekin’ over their shoulder ‘a-sayin’, “What are you ‘a-doin’ now?” They say, “Now, you just wait till I am done.” The Lord says the same thing. He is just not finished His workin’ with you yet.
Isaiah 64:4 done says, “No eye has seen a God like ours who works for those who wait for Him.” So don’t be ‘a-lettin’ hardships be ‘a-turnin’ you bitter, friend. Instead, let ‘em turn you better. God is a‑shapin’ you into somethin’ mighty. mighty fine.
Father, thank You for ‘a-workin’ in my life even when I can’t see the whole picture. Be ‘a-shapin’ me, ‘a-guidin’ me, and ‘a-helpin’ me to be ‘a-trustin’ Your hands. Be ‘a-makin’ me better, not bitter, and be ‘a-keepin’ me real steady as You finish what You done started. In Jesus holy name I pray. Amen.
Well, I figure we have done chased this here truth around the barn long enough. Now you go on out there and remember this here thing. If God can turn ol’ Peter, the ear slicer, into Peter, the preacher, He can sure finish that there good work He done started in you.
With joy,
Gwen
