For Such a Time as This
Well now, go on and step out into this day like you’ve got Heaven’s own marching orders because, friend, you actually do. God didn’t drop you here like a loose pecan rolling off the tailgate of a pickup. No ma’am, no sir, He placed you right where you are with the precision of a church grandma lining up potluck casseroles: purposeful, intentional, and not one smidge of an accidental crumb in sight!
Just take a gander at Esther. Sweet girl wasn’t exactly campaigning for royalty. One minute she’s living a quiet Jewish life, the next she’s scooped up into the Persian palace for what was basically the world’s first beauty pageant, and wouldn’t you know it. She wins: a crown, royal robes, the whole sparkly package. Suddenly she’s dining on the king’s finest, wrapped in fabrics fancier than anything stitched at the county fair. Bless her heart, she probably forgot what dirty laundry even looked like.
But then along slithered Haman. Now he was the kind of fella who’d cut in front of you at the grocery store and pretend he didn’t see you. Scripture says, “Haman was promoted high in the kingdom, but his heart was lower than a snake’s belly” (Esther 3:1). He despised the Jewish people so much he convinced the king to sign off on a plan to wipe them out never realizing the queen herself was Jewish.
Enter Uncle Mordecai (actually her cousin), steady as a deacon on Sunday morning. He sent word to Esther saying, “Darlin’, don’t think that crown’s gonna shield you. Maybe, just maybe, God put you right where you are for such a time as this” (Esther 4: 13-14).
That right there lit a holy fire in her. She fasted, prayed, marched herself into the king’s presence uninvited, risking her life, and God used her courage to save an entire nation.
Now, you may not be called to rescue a people group today. You might just be called to love that difficult neighbor, coworker, or family member, stand firm in a storm, or speak truth when your knees are knocking. Don’t you underestimate the holy ground beneath your feet. Your spot matters.
Joshua 1:9 reminds us, “Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Lord, thank You for placing me here on purpose. Give me courage to walk boldly in the calling You’ve woven into my life. Use me for such a time as this. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Now go on, friend, keep your chin up and shoulders back. You’re chosen, equipped, and right on time.
With joy,
Gwen
