Are You a Disciple?
Pull up a rocker and settle in your seat for a spell. Let the breeze cool your worries and the peace of God hush your heart. As my granny used to say, “A calm spirit’ll cure more ailments than a whole shelf of tonics,” and she wasn’t wrong.
Now, back in Acts 17, a riled‑up crowd came stormin’ through town hollerin’, “Those folks who turned the world upside down are here too!” They meant it as an insult, but bless their hearts, they accidentally paid the church the finest compliment in Scripture. Even ‘ole Jed Clampett would’ve scratched his head and said, “Well, doggie, now, ain’t that somethin’.”
But today, many believers tiptoe through life like they’re afraid to scuff the floor. A few might look at us and say, “Golllll‑ly! Y’all act like followin’ Jesus is optional on rainy days.” And overconfident rooster might would flap his wings and shout, “I say, that ain’t discipleship, son!”
Truth is, we’ve watered down faith until it’s thinner than Granny’s possum broth. Folks want their real Christianity light with no sacrifice, no boldness, and no risk. But that’s not the faith that turned cities upside down. That’s not the faith that made demons tremble and sinners hope again.
Jesus never called us to be fair‑weather fans. He called us to be disciples, you know, the steady, surrendered, and willing kind to follow even when the road gets bumpy. And here’s the good news: He never asks for more than He’ll empower you to give. He guides, strengthens, and walks every dusty mile with you.
So, maybe it’s time to dust off that timid faith. Time to step out of the shadows. Time to live the kind of life that makes the world sit up and say, “What in tarnation is goin’ on with that one?” Because bold discipleship still turns things upside down: homes, workplaces, communities, and even hearts.
Father, strengthen my faith so I stand firm in every season. Teach me to follow Jesus wholeheartedly through loving, serving, and obeying Him with courage and faith in Him. Remove distractions, steady my spirit, and make my life a reflection of Your grace. Help me share the Gospel with compassion and truth. Grow me daily in Your power and love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Let the Lord’s gracious blessings cover your life today and allow your faith to shake the dust off the world in all the right ways so that you can be the disciple (learner), who has the God-given courage to step out there for the Lord each day.
With joy,
Gwen
