Consider His Wonders

Well, ain’t you a sight for sore eyes? Come on up to this ol’ front porch, friend. We’ve got more room for sittin’ around here than a lil’ ol’ squirrel’s got hiding spots. Now you pull up a comfy rocker, and let’s git settled in for a spell. We’re about to talk about how big God is, and I mean bigger than an ol’ bullfrog that’s been eatin’ well all summer and now thinks he’s the king of the whole pond. Job 37:14 says, “Listen to this, Job. Stop and consider God’s wonders.” That scripture is sturdier than a big, flat river rock that has stared down a thousand floods without even blinkin’. Job 37:23 adds, “The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power.” So, go on and get real comfortable because we’re about to stretch our understandin’ wider than an ol’ barn door in a big ol’ Texas whirlwind.

Now, before we git way too cozy, let’s bring in another verse that fits like a hound dog fits real good right in the back of a pickup truck. Psalm 95:3 says, “For the Lord is the great God and the great King above all gods.” That plum means He’s bigger than your biggest worry, your tallest mountain, and any lil’ ol’ critter that tries to be chewin’ on your peace. Romans 1:19-20 reminds us, “God’s invisible qualities are clearly seen in creation.” Every towering tree, every cantankerous ol’ mule, every confused ol’ owl that gits to hootin’ at the wrong time of night, all of ‘em point to a God who is a whole lot bigger than any of our blind spots.

Job sho’-nuff’ had himself a few blind spots. Bless his ol’ heart, he thought he had God all figured out. His four friends tried to enlighten him with a mix of truth and nonsense, kind of like when your neighbor tells you that a lil’ ol’ raccoon that got into your attic is a sign of good luck. Job wasn’t receptive. He plum thought his understandin’ was airtight until God revealed Himself in Job 38-42. Suddenly, Job realized God was bigger, wiser, and more majestic than he’d ever imagined. He repented. He changed his views. He made room for a God who couldn’t be stuffed into his old ideas.

Friend, you’ve gotta make room in your understandin’ for God to reveal Himself in ways you weren’t never expectin’. Let Him stretch your thinkin’ like a clothesline that has to hold three loads of laundry all at one time. Let Him expand your experience until you see His majesty in places you ain’t never even ever thought to be lookin’.

Father, help me see You as You truly are. Remove my blind spots and open my heart to Your greatness. Teach me, guide me, and reveal Yourself in ways that deepen my faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Well now, friend, until next time, you gotta be thinkin’ about lettin’ your doubts be a whole lot smaller than a lil’ ol’ field mouse and your awe of God a whole lot larger than a mountain ridge that’s done watched centuries roll by without even movin’ an inch. When life tries to be shrinkin’ your view of Him like a lil’ ol’ squirrel that thinks your porch is its playground, remember that God is so much bigger, stronger, and more majestic than anything you’re ever gonna be facin’. So, lean in, look up, and let His greatness engulf your being and steady your soul.

With joy,

Gwen
