Clear Thinking on a Cloudy Day

Hey, there, friend! Well, would you look at that? You’ve just stepped up on this ol’ front porch like a curious lil’ ol’ gopher peekin’ around a fresh stack of firewood. I surely am glad you came by here. Pull up that rocker that squeaks louder than a cranky ol’ rooster that got shooed off the fence rail. We’re fixin’ to wander into a truth that clears the mind better than a cool breeze blowin’ through a screen door. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” That verse fits this message tighter than a lid on Aunt Bee’s pickle jar.

“But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:16) Friend, that is not just a church phrase folks toss around. That is God handin’ us a whole new way of thinkin’, like tradin’ in fogged‑up spectacles for a pair that sees crisp as a hawk glidin’ over a meadow. Romans 8:1‑6 tells us that the Spirit sets us free from the old way of thinkin’ that drags us down like a stubborn mule that refuses to budge. When we walk according to the Spirit, our thoughts start lining up with Jesus’ thoughts. We begin to see life through His eyes, not through the world’s blurry ones.

Paul told the Philippians, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 2:5) That means we do not just admire how Jesus thinks. We welcome it. We let His truth settle into our minds the way a determined beaver settles into building a dam. And friend, here is a fresh verse to deepen this truth. Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You.” That is the kind of peace that holds steady even when life feels like a raccoon rummaging through your trash cans at midnight.

The world will always try to fog up our thinking. It will tempt us to turn off the wipers and coast blind through the storms. But the Spirit clears our vision. He helps us see temptation for what it is, truth for what it is, and Jesus for who He is. When we set our minds on the things of the Spirit, we begin to walk in life and peace, just like Romans 8:6 promises.

Father, thank you for giving me the mind of Christ. Thank you for clearing my thoughts, steadying my heart, and guiding my steps. Help me think your thoughts, love your truth, and walk in your peace. Amen.

Well friend, I reckon it’s sho’-nuff’ about time for you to carry this here truth right on into the rest of your day, holdin’ it the way a determined lil’ ol’ squirrel guards a hickory nut it plans to bury for safekeepin’. Keep in mind that God steadies your thoughts with more skill than a farmhand linin’ up fence posts straight enough to impress the whole county. Move forward with the calm confidence of an ol’ barn cat that knows exactly which sunny patch of floor is worth claimin’. And hold your mind to the Spirit’s direction, friend, because His clarity rises up stronger than a fresh sunrise spillin’ gold all across a real quiet pasture.

With joy,

Gwen
