A Mind Lit by His Light
Well, goodness gracious, friend, come on up this ol’ front porch and shake some of that dust plum off your boots. I’m mighty glad you came stoppin’ by here today. So, sit yourself down in that ol’ rocker that squawks like a lil’ ol’ goose that plum got startled out there under the woodpile. We’re about to go strollin’ right on through God’s Word together, and I reckon it’ll settle your heart better than a warm quilt fresh off the clothesline.
Proverbs 20:22 says, “Do not say, “I will repay evil.” Wait for the Lord, and he will deliver you.” And, friend, trustin’ God for justice feels a whole lot like tryin’ to convince a stubborn ol’ goat that the gate is open. You point, you wave your arms, you explain it plain as day, and that ol’ goat just stares at you like you’re speakin’ owl language to him. But God never stares blankly. He plum sees every wrong, every jab, every sideways insult that hits you like an ol’ rooster feather floatin’ through a barn draft. And He sho’-nuff’ sees it perfectly.
Paul sho’-nuff’ knew what it felt like to be chased. Folks followed him around like a pack of lil’ ol’ raccoons that smelled a fresh pie coolin’ on the windowsill. Yet, he never grabbed the reins of revenge. Romans 12:19 reminds us that “It is mine to avenge. I will repay,” says the Lord. And Isaiah 30:18 tells us that “The Lord is a God of justice.” Waitin’ for that justice can feel slower than a turtle crossin’ a muddy creek, but waitin’ is where faith grows legs.
Here’s the deeper truth. God doesn’t waste opposition. He folds it right into His plan like a mama foldin’ pecans into chocolate chip cookie dough. What was meant to crush Paul ended up spreadin’ the gospel farther than a lil’ ol’ squirrel can leap from one oak tree branch to another. And Psalm 37:7 adds another layer of wisdom when it says, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” Justice ain’t delayed. It’s downright bein’ prepared.
Now, you gotta be leanin’ back, friend, lettin’ your soul git to breathin’. God ain’t ever slow. He’s plum thorough. He ain’t late. He’s downright precise. Your job is faithfulness. His job is justice. And He ain’t never once mixed up the two.
Lord, help me trust Your justice when my heart wants to fix everything myself. Teach me to wait with hope, rest with confidence, and believe that You see all and make all things right. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Well, friend, I plum declare, it’s sho’-nuff’ time for you to be steppin’ off this here porch and back into the rest of your day. You gotta be walkin’ on with a heart steadier than a lil’ ol’ barn cat perched on a fence rail and a spirit brighter than a lightnin’ bug showin’ off at dusk. Justice is already on the move, and you’re walking in the care of the One who never misses a single thing.
With joy,
Gwen
