Called Anyway
Well now, friend, look at you wanderin’ over here like you heard this ol’ front porch was handin’ out peace and maybe a little hope wrapped in a warm breeze. Just pull up a rocker for a lil’ spell. Let’s settle in like two folks watchin’ lightnin’ bugs float over a meadow while a curious porcupine shuffles past like it’s inspectin’ the neighborhood. Truth is, life can make us feel a whole lot like that porcupine. We poke around actin’ like we’ve got everything figured out until God calls our name, and suddenly we realize we’re about as prepared as a prairie chicken tryin’ to lead choir practice. That’s why Exodus 3:12 fits like gravy on biscuits here. It reminds us that God ain’t sendin’ us anywhere alone. And Psalm 138:8 deepens the whole message by tellin’ us He’ll fulfill His purpose for us. Friend, that verse is like a thick wool blanket on a frosty mornin’. It tells us God finishes what He starts, even when we feel like we’re plum startin’ from scratch. And Isaiah 41:13 slips in right beside it, remindin’ us that God’s holdin’ our right hand and whisperin’, “Fear not, I’m the One who helps you.” That’s not just comfort. That’s courage with boots on.
Moses sure knew that feelin’. One minute he was tendin’ sheep that behaved about as well as a stubborn ol’ donkey. The next minute God was tellin’ him to march right up to Pharaoh. Moses looked at himself and saw a man who’d spent forty years smellin’ like pasture life. God looked at Moses and saw a man He could use. Moses asked, “Who am I?” and God answered with the only thing that mattered. “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14). Friend, that’s God’s way of sayin’, “You bring your weakness, and I’ll bring My strength.” It’s the same truth He told Gideon in Judges 6:14-16. God don’t just call the qualified. He qualifies the called. And He sticks with ‘em like a lil’ ol’ barn cat that refuses to leave the milkin’ stool.
Sometimes God asks us to do somethin’ that feels bigger than a hay barn and scarier than a fox that woke up on the wrong side of the stump. We look at our abilities and think we’re not enough. But God looks at His abilities and knows He’s always enough. Psalm 138:8 reminds us He’ll fulfill His purpose in us. Isaiah 41:13 reminds us He’s holdin’ our hand while He does it. That means He won’t drop us halfway through the journey like a lil’ ol’ blue jay abandonin’ a half-built nest. He stays. He strengthens. He supplies. And He walks with us every step of the way.
Father, thank You for callin’ me even when I feel unqualified. Help me trust Your strength more than my own. Fulfill Your purpose in me and remind me that You are always with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Alright then, friend, as you walk away from this place and make your way toward whatever the Lord has lined up for you, let this truth soak into your spirit the way a gentle rain settles into thirsty ground. God’s callin’ ain’t some wild roundup where He hollers at you from behind. It’s a steady leadin’ where He walks right beside you, sure as an ol’ farm dog shadowin’ your steps. And while you may feel as unqualified as a turtle tryin’ to outrun a windstorm, God ain’t askin’ you to be the hero of the story. He’s askin’ you to trust the One who already is. He’s present in your callin’, powerful in your weakness, and persistent in His purpose. When He says He’ll be with you, He really means it. When He promises to fulfill His purpose for you, He absolutely will. So, take a deep breath, square your shoulders, and walk forward knowin’ the God who called you is the same God who equips you and finishes every good thing He starts.
