A Heart Full of Healing
Well now, friend, I see you strollin’ up here like a breeze that decided to take the scenic route. Alright then, come right on up here on this ol’ front porch because maybe you just smelled fresh cornbread coolin’ on the windowsill. Sit yourself down for a lil’ spell. Let’s settle in like we’re watchin’ the sun slip behind the oak trees while a curious gopher waddles by like it thinks it’s in charge around here. Life can make us feel a whole lot like that ol’ gopher. We wander around thinkin’ we’ve got everything figured out until trouble comes slippin’ up and taps us on the shoulder, and suddenly we realize we’re about as prepared as a lil’ ol’ field mouse tryin’ to figure out how to milk a cow. That’s why Proverbs 17:22 fits this moment like sweet, iced tea fits a hot summer day. It says, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.” And Isaiah 12:3 says, “With joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.” That verse right there is plum like findin’ a hidden spring on a real hot afternoon. It reminds us that joy ain’t just a feelin’. It’s a God-given resource that keeps us goin’ when life tries to dry us out.
Truth is, some folks feel like their lives have no purpose. That bad feelin’ sneaks in quiet as a sly lil’ fox slippin’ through tall grass. It steals joy, peace, and every bit of laughter you thought you had left in you. But in Christ we find our reason for breathin’ and our purpose for livin’. Happiness ain’t just a mood. It’s real good medicine for your spirit, your relationships, your home, and even your weary bones. Proverbs 17:22 says it real plain. A merry heart is good medicine. And Isaiah 12:3 reminds us that joy is drawn from the deep well of salvation, not from whatever is happenin’ around us. That there means if you wait for circumstances to make you happy, you’ll be sittin’ around longer than an ol’ turtle waitin’ around for a haircut. Happiness is plum spiritual. It’s fed by the Word of God, strengthened by His promises, and kept alive by His presence.
So, friend, make it your daily habit to guard your joy like an ol’ rooster guards the henhouse with all his might. Let the Word of God stir up gladness in your spirit. Let His truth be the spark that lights your laughter. Joy ain’t pretendin’ everything is perfect. Joy is rememberin’ that God is perfect even when everything else is not. And when your heart stays merry, your life becomes a place where healing can be growin’ like wildflowers after real good a spring rain.
Father, thank You for the joy You place in my spirit. Help me draw from the wells of salvation every day. Keep my heart merry, my spirit steady, and my mind anchored in Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Alright then, friend, as you take to your daily path today and git to wanderin’ back into whatever the day holds for you, hide this truth deep in your pocket like a real nice smooth river stone. Joy ain’t real fragile. It’s about as sturdy as a cedar tree standin’ against a big wind storm. Happiness ain’t no luxury. It’s a God-given strength that keeps your spirit from dryin’ out like the cracked earth in the heat of August. And when you choose joy, you are choosin’ to walk with the One who fills your well, steadies your steps, and keeps your heart alive with hope. So go on out there now. You gotta be choosin’ to be lettin’’ that merry heart of yours do its healing work in your life and in the lives of others.
With joy,
Gwen
