Overcomer
Some days life feels smoother than butter on a hot biscuit, and other days, it feels like you’re a caterpillar stuck in a too‑tight cocoon wonderin’ why the Lord signed you up for CrossFit. But here’s the truth whispered from God’s front porch: nothing great ever grows without pushin’ through somethin’. Even butterflies have to wiggle their way out of a sleeping bag made of silk.
Jesus knew that, too. That’s why He sent His disciples straight into a storm on the Sea of Galilee, not because He ran out of sunny days, but because storms make strong sailors. He was teachin’ them (and us) that faith ain’t proven on calm water.
So, what are you tryin’ to overcome today? Instead of hollerin’, “Lord, take it away!” maybe try, “Lord, teach me through it.” Sometimes the thing you’re beggin’ God to remove is the very thing He’s usin’ to build your wings.
John said it plain as sweet tea: “Who is the one who overcomes the world? The one who believes Jesus is the Son of God” (1 John 5:5). Believin’ doesn’t mean noddin’ politely at Bible facts. It means obeyin’, trustin’, and leanin’ on Him like a porch rail that never breaks.
I learned that the hard way playin’ piano as a kid. Hit one wrong note, and I’d panic like a possum in headlights. My teacher finally said, “Honey, if you mess up, just smile big and keep goin’. Folks won’t know the difference.” Translation: your attitude determines whether you sink or soar.
Life is 10% what happens and 90% how you respond. Victims whine. Overcomers shine. And God’s commands? They’re not burdens. They’re safety rails. Like the daddy who told his lost little boy, “If you get stuck, find a tree and stay put.” That kid lived because he listened.
God’s not tryin’ to cramp your style. He’s tryin’ to keep you alive long enough to fulfill your calling.
Lord, help me stop actin’ like a victim and start livin’ like an overcomer. Shape my attitude, steady my steps, and teach me to trust You in every storm. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Now go flap those wings, friend. You weren’t made to stay in the cocoon. Today you are called to be an overcomer!
With joy,
Gwen
