Attitude of Gratitude
Take a deep breath right now, friend, and settle your heart on God’s promises. His faithfulness doesn’t wobble, and His guidance will carry you through today just like it carried Israel through the Red Sea.
“The people of Israel walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on each side” (Exodus 14:22).
Can you imagine that sight? Fish swimming beside you like the world’s biggest aquarium, sand under your feet instead of mud, and God Himself lighting the way. They walked all night long, step after step, with the Lord right there in the middle of it.
That’s a picture of the Christian life. It’s a walk: sometimes thrilling, sometimes ordinary, sometimes downright tiring. At first, everything feels new and exciting. But just like Israel in the wilderness, that early wonder can fade if we’re not careful. Even folks in Jesus’ day drifted off once the novelty wore thin (Matthew 8:34; Mark 6:3; Luke 4:28–29).
When apathy starts creeping in, it’s usually because we’ve stopped tending the basics, “R.P.G.S.”, you know, those simple things that keep your soul fed:
1. Read your Bible every day. God’s Word never goes stale.
2. Pray about everything: big, small, and in between.
3. Go to church. You need your people, and they need you.
4. Share your faith. A fire burns brighter when it’s shared.
Neglect those, and your spirit starts feeling like you skipped too many meals, lightheaded, weak, and worn down. But keep walking in obedience, one step at a time, and God will strengthen you. As Isaiah reminds us, “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31).
Lord, when my heart grows tired, renew me. When my passion fades, stir it up again. Give me ears to hear You, eyes to see You, and a spirit that chooses You daily. Guard me from drifting and grow my hunger for Your Word and Your presence. Let my faith stay steady and my steps stay true. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Let gratitude fill your heart today and let His love spill over onto someone else.
With joy,
Gwen
