Better Days Comin’

Well now, friend, look at you wanderin’ up over here this way. Come on in off that path, and step right up onto this ol’ front porch like you own a share of it. I was just sittin’ here watchin’ the breeze tussle the treetops like a playful lil’ ol’ goat nudgin’ its buddies around, and I’m mighty glad you showed up. You’ve got that look folks get when yesterday’s troubles are still hangin’ on them like burrs stuck to a hikin’ jacket. Pull up a chair and rest a spell, because we’re about to chew on a truth that’ll warm your spirit the way a cast‑iron kettle warms a cabin on a frosty mountain mornin’.

Forget the former things. Do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing. Now it springs up. Do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:18-19). That verse plum stands tall like a stubborn ol’ cedar clingin’ to a cliffside even when winter winds try their best to shove it off. When life reroutes you, it’s real easy to start lookin’ backward. You remember when things felt simple, when opportunities seemed wide open, when life made sense. The past starts lookin’ shinier than a polished horseshoe hangin’ over a barn door.

But God wants you to understand somethin’. Your best days are not behind you. They’re downright ahead of you. Seasons change. Circumstances shift. What worked yesterday might not work tomorrow. And that can feel mighty disorientin’, like an ol’ rooster wakin’ up in a henhouse that ain’t his. Yet God has a real good plan for your life. He’s still in charge. He’s taken hold of your right hand, and He’ll guide you step by step.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). And Psalm 138:8 tells us, “The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me. Your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.” That verse holds steady like a river stone settled so deep in the creek bed that no spring flood can budge it. God is not finished writin’ your story. The detour is not the end. It’s a plot twist, and the best chapters might be the ones you haven’t even imagined yet.

Stop mournin’ what once was. Start trustin’ what will be. Your best days are sho’-nuff’ ahead.

Father, help me loosen my grip on yesterday. Teach me to trust Your hand as You lead me into the new things You are bringin’. Fill me with hope, courage, and expectation for what lies ahead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Well now, friend, before you wander off this porch and head back into that wide world, take a breath and notice what’s stirrin’ inside you. There’s a courage growin’ in you that stands bold like a mule deer that ain’t afraid to step out into a sunlit clearin’. There’s a peace stretchin’ itself out in your heart like a fat ol’ barn cat sprawled across a warm windowsill. There’s a hope flickerin’ steady like the glow from a potbelly stove on a cold night. And there’s a trust in God movin’ you forward with the quiet strength of a big ol’ turtle that knows exactly how to keep goin’ no matter what’s in its path. So, off you go now, friend, carryin’ the sure and settled knowin’ that God’s already walkin’ ahead of you into every better day He’s got lined up.

With joy,

Gwen
