Called to Carry the Light
Well, glory be, friend, you come right on up here on this here ol’ front porch before that breeze scoops you up and blows you away like a loose leaf skitterin’ across a gravel driveway. I’m mighty glad you’re here. Pull up that ol’ rickety rocker that creaks like a lil’ ol’ beaver tryin’ to gnaw through a knotty log and settle yourself in real good and comfy like. We’re about to go traipsin’ through God’s Word together, and I reckon it’ll warm your heart better than a cozy cabin fire on a snowy mountain night
Matthew 28:18 says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” And Matthew 28:19 tells us, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.” Friend, waitin’ for permission to obey God feels a whole lot like tryin’ to convince a jittery wild turkey that the barn door is wide open. You point, you explain, you wave your arms around like an ol’ chipmunk that plum went and forgot how to climb, and that ol’ tom turkey gobbler hoppin’ about like an ol’ frog that landed on a hot rock. But God never struts in confusion. He knows exactly what He’s called you to do, and He’s already downright given you the authority to do it.
First Peter 2:9 plum reminds us with the words “you are a chosen people.” And Isaiah 6:8 adds another layer when it says, “Here am I. Send me.” God doesn’t wait for credentials, certificates, or fancy titles. He calls ordinary folks, just like He did with fishermen and tax collectors. He commissions us because He knows His power works best through willing hearts, not polished résumés.
The Great Commission isn’t a suggestion. It’s a downright callin’. It’s the steady voice of Jesus sayin’, “Go.” Not when you feel ready. Not when you think you know enough. Not when you finally believe you’re qualified. He already qualified you when He saved you. He already blessed you when He called you out of darkness. He already equipped you when He filled you with His Spirit.
Friend, whatever’s holdin’ you back, it’s time to step over it like a raccoon climbin’ out of a hollow stump. Someone needs your story. Someone needs your invitation. Someone needs your witness. You’ve been commissioned. You’ve been blessed. And you’ve already been sent.
Father, give me courage to obey Your calling. Help me share Your truth with joy, boldness, and love. Remind me that You’ve already given me everything I need to go where You send me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Well, alright now, friend, I’ll tell you what, it’s time for you to step off this porch and into the rest of your day. Walk on with a spirit brighter than a firefly dancin’ at dusk and a heart steadier than a wise old owl perched on a cedar limb. You’re not waitin’ for permission anymore. You’re walkin’ in the authority of the One that already sent you.
With joy,
Gwen
