When Your Problems are Bigger than Your Muscles

Well now, cupcake, scoot your rockin’ chair up a little bit closer on this here front‑porch. Now, listen in for some good  wisdom and remember: God’s grace is more than enough for whatever adventure today throws at you, even if it feels like you’re ‘a-wranglin’ a bull that didn’t get the memo about bein’ gentle.

Mark 5 introduces us to a fella who was more trouble than a raccoon in a corncrib. This poor man lived out in the burial caves, wild‑eyed and tormented, ‘a-snappin’ chains like they were cheap dollar‑store twine. Folks tried everything—ropes, shackles, probably a stern talkin’‑to, but nothing worked. He was stronger than a mule with an attitude and twice as unpredictable.

Bless their hearts, the community did what they could. But this man’s problem wasn’t physical; it was spiritual. And you can’t fix spiritual battles with earthly tools any more than you can fix a tractor with a jar of pickles. Society tried, but the problem was bigger than their toolbox.

And isn’t that just like life? We’ve got all this fancy technology, degrees, committees, and “experts,” but when it comes to the messes Satan stirs up, we’re about as helpful as a chicken ‘a-tryin’ to do algebra. We need a Savior.

Enter Jesus ‘a-walkin’ right into that spooky graveyard like He owned the place. He didn’t flinch at the man’s wild appearance. He didn’t back up like a skittish deer. He saw the hurting soul underneath all that chaos. And with one simple command, just one, He set that man free.

That’s what Jesus does! He reaches the unreachable. He frees the bound. He restores what everyone else has given up on. If this story teaches us anything, it’s this: nobody is ever too far gone for the Lord. Not your cousin, not your neighbor, not even you. “There is always hope for one who is willing to step up to the Lord” (Hebrews 6:19).

Father, thank You that when life feels too overwhelming and situations look hopeless, I can trust You to step in with power, wisdom, and perfect timin’. Renew my faith, strengthen my heart, and remind me that nothin’ is impossible with You. I pray this with gratitude in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.

Now go on out there into your day, sugar pea, and stop lookin’ at your troubles like they’re some giant hog ready to charge. Jesus has handled bigger beasts than you are ‘a-wranglin’, and He did it with the calm of a turtle sunnin’ on a log without even ‘a-breakin’ a sweat.

With joy,

Gwen
