When Mercy Speaks Louder

Well, hello there, Friend! Come on up to this ol’ front porch and make yourself right at home. I’m mighty glad you came by for a lil’ visit. Pull up a chair that has rocked through more ol’ stories than an ol’ barn owl perched on a fence post at dusk. Life can git to feelin’ downright peculiar sometimes, kind of like tryin’ to pour sweet tea while a mischievous ol’ chipmunk is runnin’ laps around your ankles. One minute everything seems real calm, then suddenly some woodsy lil’ ol’ critter or farm animal that has no business bein’ that dramatic reminds you that you’re not the one runnin’ the universe. That there’s why Hebrews 12:24 fits in here so well as it tells us, “Jesus’ blood “speaks better things than that of Abel,” and, friend, that truth will steady your heart like a cool breeze movin’ through a pecan grove.

Genesis 4:10 tells us, “Abel’s blood cried out from the ground. It cried for justice. It cried for revenge.” It cried louder than an ol’ rooster that thinks sunrise is an option that he alone can choose. Abel’s blood pointed straight at Cain, and God asked, “What hast thou done?” That cry exposed guilt and consequence. It was the voice of the flesh, the part of us that wants some real serious payback when someone wrongs us.

But Hebrews 12:24 shows us a different cry. Jesus’ blood speaks forgiveness. It speaks mercy. It speaks acquittal. Romans 5:9 reminds us “we are justified by His blood.” Ephesians 1:7 tells us “we have redemption through His blood.” Colossians 1:20 says “He made peace through the blood of His cross.” Friend, that’s a whole chorus of grace singin’ over your life.

Every time someone hurts us, we plum stand at a crossroads. Will we let Abel’s blood speak, the cry of the flesh that demands revenge? Or will we let Jesus’ blood speak, the cry of the Spirit that offers forgiveness? One cry chains us. The other frees us.

Father, thank You for the blood of Jesus that speaks mercy over my life. Help me choose forgiveness when my flesh wants revenge. Teach me to let Your voice drown out every cry for payback. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Alright then, friend, before you head on your way to your daily tasks, you’ve gotta be lettin’ this truth settle deep in your heart. Jesus’ blood can soften a heart tougher than an ol’ cedar fence post that has stood through the test of time. It can calm anger louder than a lil’ ol’ squirrel fussin’ at an ol’ hound dog from the safety of a tall oak tree. It can turn harsh bitterness into peace smoother than river stones shaped by years of gentle flowin’ water. And it can plum guide you into a life where forgiveness becomes your strength, your freedom, and your testimony, shinin’ brighter than all the lil’ fireflies dancin’ across a warm southern evenin’.

With joy,

Gwen
