When Jesus Prays for You

Well, now, bless your lil’ ol’ bones, Butterbean, let me git ta’ easin’ you right into this real gentle like a lil’ ol’ dragonfly ‘a-hoverin’ over a real still pond at sunrise. You gotta’ be ‘a-picturin’ me off’n that there front porch an’ right out in the yard real early this mornin’, ‘a-watchin’ a big ol’ bullfrog ‘a-tryin’ to convince a bunch of unimpressed turtles that he was done the king of the whole creek. That there scene got me ta’ thinkin’ ‘bout how life can puff itself right on up and croak at us like it’s in charge, when really, the One runnin’ the whole show is ‘a-sittin’ at the right hand o’ God. Romans 8:34 done tells us, “Christ Jesus who died, more than that, who was raised to life, is at the right hand o’ God and is also intercedin’ for us.” That there truth done be settled into my heart quieter than a fox ‘a-slippin’ through tall grass, ‘a-remindin’ me that Jesus Himself is done ‘a-prayin’ for us right now this here very moment.

Now, listen here, Butterbean, be ‘a-thinkin’ back to the very last time somebody done said, “I’m ’a- prayin’ for you.” Did it make your heart perk up like a rooster ‘a-hearin’ the feed bucket rattle? It’s mighty encouragin’ when someone takes time outta’ their day to be ‘a-liftin’ your name up to the Lord. But here is the part that’ll make your eyebrows done be ‘a-jumpin’ a whole lot higher than a ol’ grasshopper on a real hot skillet. Jesus is ‘a-prayin’ for you all the time. Not just when you are ‘a-cryin’ into your pillow or ‘a-walkin’ through some kind o’ bad disappointment. He’s ‘a-doin’ it ALL THE TIME.

He’s ‘a-prayin’ for your family, your friendships, your lil’ ol’ weary heart, your seasons of ‘a-waitin’, your skeery moments of uncertainty, and even them there thangs you haven’t done been ‘a-tellin’ a soul. He’s done intercedin’ for you like a mama hen ‘a-hoverin’ over her lil’ baby chicks, ‘cept with a whole lot more power and none of that there squawkin’.

So, don’t be ‘a-skimin’ past Romans 8:34 like it’s done the fine print on a lil’ ol’ seed packet. When your friends done git ta’ sayin’ they’re ‘a-prayin’ for you, it really done means a whole lot. But when the Savior of the world is ‘a-prayin’ for you, well, Buttercup, that there oughta’ put some extra special, holy pep right on into your step.

Whatever you’re ‘a-walkin’ through today, you gotta be ‘a-bringin’ your prayers boldly to your Heavenly Father. And as you do it, you gotta’ be ‘a-takin’ comfort in ‘a-knowin’ Jesus is right there ‘a-prayin’ right along with you, ‘a-noddin’ His head and ‘a-sayin’, “Father, help ‘em. Strengthen ‘em. Guide ‘em.”

Father, I’m ‘a-thankin’ You for prayin’ for me even when I git ta’ feelin’ more scattered than a flock of chickens in a windstorm. Be ‘a-helpin’ me to be ‘a-bringin’ my needs to You with real confidence. Be ‘a-remindin’ me that I’m never, ever alone, never, ever forgotten, and always ‘a-bein’ lifted up ‘a-fore Your throne. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Now, then, Butterbean, you gotta’ be ‘a-knowin’ that if’n this here life starts to tossin’ you ‘round like a tumblin’ tumbleweed in a big ol’ Texas wind gust, Jesus is still gonna’ be ‘a-prayin’ for you. He’s still gonna’ be ‘a-coverin’ you. He’s still gonna’ be ‘a-cheerin’ you on. And if ‘n that there don’t git to settlin’ your lil’ ol’ soul in real good like ‘a-settin’ down ta’ be ‘a-restin’ in a porch swing after a real long day’s work at sundown, I jes’ don’t know what will.

With joy,

Gwen
