What Truly Satisfies
Well, bless you heart, friend, step right on into this here moment like you’re plum wanderin’ up the worn path to a hill country spring that’s been waitin’ all day to greet you. I’m mighty glad you showed up on this ol’ front porch. Pull yourself into this quiet space and breathe deep, the way a thoughtful ol’ beaver pauses beside a still pond even when a jittery lil’ ol’ squirrel skitters across a fallen log nearby. Isaiah 55:1-2 says, “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters.” To deepen that invitation, Psalm 34:8 tells us, “Taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.” These two verses stand together like two glowin’ lanterns hung on opposite sides of an ol’ cabin door in the cold of winter throwin’ light on the path that leads straight to the warmth of God’s generous grace.
Friend, what an invitation! What an opportunity! What a heartfelt plea from God to every single one of us! He gave us free will, so we get to choose what gits to fillin’ our days. We can chase after things that sparkle but never satisfy, the way a curious lil’ ol’ raccoon chases every shiny trinket it finds. Or we can wake up, consider our priorities, and choose the One who downright offers life that actually nourishes.
Isaiah paints a real good picture of God callin’ out to every thirsty soul. He invites us to come and drink His waters, the kind that reach places no earthly drink ever could. He surely knows we’re spiritually bankrupt, so He says to buy what our soul needs and charge it to His account. That there’s grace with its sleeves rolled up.
Then, God asks a question that hits home. “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what doesn’t satisfy?” It’s His gentle way of sayin, “Friend, you are workin’ yourself silly for things that will never feed you.” Psalm 34:8 echoes the same truth by sayin’, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Not just good enough. Good in a way that fills, restores, and delights.
God loves you deeply. He wants you to live in His abundant grace. Come to Him today. Take what your soul needs. Feast on His love and care. Learn of Him and grow. Step into His waters and never thirst again.
Father, thank You for inviting’ me to come close. Thank You for Your grace, Your mercy, and Your love that satisfies the deepest places in me. Teach my soul to drink from You alone and to delight in what is truly good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Well, ok now, friend, that plum wraps up this little visit, and the rest of your day is standin’ right there waitin’ for you like a bright meadow callin’ a gentle ol’ deer out from the shade. Walk forward with the steady peace of a lil’ river turtle slidin’ into cool water knowin’ exactly where refreshment comes from. Carry God’s invitation with you the way a wise ol’ hoot owl carries its calm perched high and steady above the noise. And move through whatever comes next with a soul that’s tasted what is truly good filled from the inside out by the One who never runs dry.
With joy,
Gwen
