Unshakable Justice
Come on up here, friend. Welcome! This ol’ front porch may be a lil’ bit crooked, but it has held more good conversations than a church potluck. Ok, now, pull up that rocker right over there and git yourself settled in real good like we’re about to be watchin’ a whole committee of lil’ ol’ raccoons hold a town‑hall meeting right over there under the porch light. Today we are talkin’ about justice, the kind that stands taller than an ol’ barn owl perched up on the highest barn beam. Job 34:12 says, “Surely God will never do wickedly, nor will the Almighty pervert justice.” That truth is plum sturdier than a river boulder that has stared down many big floods without ever even budgin’ an inch. And Psalm 33:5 says, “He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.” Friend, that there’s a reminder that God’s justice ain’t only firm, it’s sho’-nuff’ overflowin’.
Now let’s swat a few lil’ ol’ fat gnats swarmin’ around here and talk real plain. Job and his friends spent a whole lot of time tryin’ real hard to figure out whether justice was bein’ served by God. Job’s friends thought he must’ve deserved every ounce of the trouble he was facin’, kind of like when someone insists an ol’ goat that wandered into the garden must’ve done it on purpose. Job, on the other hand, couldn’t understand why God allowed such sufferin’ in his life. But tucked right in the middle of all that confusion is a truth that doesn’t even wobble. Job 34:10-15 reminds us that “God never commits wickedness, never twists justice, and never mismanages His world. He sees. He knows. He judges rightly.”
Sometimes life hands us situations that feel about as unfair as a squirrel stealin’ every last pecan off your tree. It’s plum frustratin’. It’s real confusin’. It’s downright demoralizing. But as time goes by, we often git to lookin’ back and seein’ God’s hand of goodness woven through the mess. Romans 12:1-2 reminds us to surrender our bodies and minds to Him, so He can transform us from the inside out. When we can’t trace His hand, we can sho’-nuff’ be trustin’ His heart. And friend, His heart is mighty just, steady, and good.
Psalm 33:5 says, “The earth is full of His goodness.” That there means even when life feels real crooked, God is not. Even when circumstances feel real unfair, God is not. Even when we feel real powerless, God is not. He is righteous. He is just. He is trustworthy.
Father, help me trust Your justice even when life feels unfair. Teach me to surrender my worries, steady my heart, and rest in Your goodness. Show me Your hand at work and strengthen my faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Well, shucks, friend, you be sure to come back now. You gotta be lettin’ your doubts be smaller than one of them ol’ fat gnats we’ve been swattin’ at and your confidence in God be growin’ a whole lot stronger than a granite ridge that’s stood watch over the valley since before the first oak tree ever sprouted. When life feels mighty unfair, like a lil’ ol’ deer tiptoein’ through your garden without permission, remember that God’s justice don’t ever git to wobblin’. He plum sees every detail, He knows every burden, and He works with a goodness deeper than any trouble you’re ever gonna be facin’. So, lean in real close, put your trust in Him, and let His steady heart be guidin’ your footsteps.
With joy,
Gwen
