Trustin’ an’ Unshakable

Well, friend, how’s things goin’? Come on over, and scoot your chair a little closer up here on this ol’ front porch, ‘cause we’re about to go traipsin’ off into some holy truth that’s plumb thicker than sorghum molasses on a real cold mornin’. Psalm 125:1-2 tells us that “those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which can’t be shaken but endures forever, and that the Lord surrounds His people the way mountains surround Jerusalem.” Now, that there’s a picture worth hangin’ right up on the wall. It’s as if God Himself is sayin’, “Friend, if you’ll trust Me, I’ll steady you better than an ol’ three legged stool that somehow never wobbles.” And when the Lord makes a promise like that, even the jitteriest ol’ jackrabbit in the county’ll sit still long enough to listen.

You know how some folks trust the Lord, and some folks don’t. Well, they’re scattered everywhere like rascally ol’ raccoons rummagin’ through a campground cooler, grabbin’ whatever looks shiny. But the real question is the one you ask yourself when the day quiets down. Can you trust the Lord with everything you have? Scripture says you can ‘cause He’s not like people who go to forgittin’, fumblin’, or fussin’. He’s faithful when others flake out. He’s steady when others wobble. He’s dependable the way an old barn stands plumb firm through a Texas thunderstorm while the chickens go to runnin’ ‘round actin’ like the sky is done ‘bout to be fallin’.

And trustin’ Him ain’t complicated. You gotta be followin’ His Word. Proverbs 3:5 says to “trust in the Lord with all your heart.” That there means believin’ what He says ‘bout you, and practicin’ it until it settles into your soul like warm biscuits settlin’ into a cast iron skillet. God’s Word always produces results. It’s more reliable than a hound dog’s sniffin’ nose, and more certain than a beautiful sunrise. You can be leanin’ your whole life on it, and it won’t be creakin’, crackin’, or collapsin’, not even when life starts throwin’ curveballs like a pitcher who’s done had too much coffee.

When you act on His Word, you’re showin’ your trust in Him. When you obey Him, you’re sayin’, “Lord, I believe You.” An’ when you believe Him, you become sho’ nuff unshakable. You become like that there mountain in Psalm 125, “standin’ tall while everything else trembles,” like a nervous lil’ ol’ squirrel that just realized the big ol’ hoot owl has done woke up early. That’s why Scripture celebrates those who trust in the Lord. They endure. They stand firm. They don’t go to fallin’ over when life starts to rattlin’ and clankin’ its ol’ chains, tryin’ to scare you into forgittin’ who your God is.

Father, I put my trust in Your dependable Word. Help me lean on You with everything I have. Surround me, steady me, and strengthen me as I walk in Your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Well, how ‘bout it, friend? While you’re journeyin’ on back into the wild world o’ your life, keep right on trustin’ that God ain’t pretendin’ our life is plumb easy. It’s ‘bout plantin’ your feet like that wise ol’ tortoise that knows slow and steady wins the race. It’s lettin’ God’s Word anchor you the way deep roots anchor a towerin’ pine tree. It’s rememberin’ that mountains don’t git to movin’ just ‘cause the wind gits to howlin’. And friend, neither will you, not when you’ve got the blessin’ of the Lord Himself bein’ the One who’s holdin’ you real steady.

With joy,

Gwen
