The Weight of One Decision
Alright now, friend, it’s so good to have you showin’ up for a lil’ spell like a fresh breeze blowin’ through a field overflowin’ with Texas Bluebonnets after a long, dusty week. I was just sittin’ here watchin’ a feisty lil’ squirrel tryin’ to boss around a sleepy ol’ cow that grazed over way too close to his pecan stash, and it plum reminded me of how one tiny lil’ ol’ critter can git to stirrin’ up a whole lot of commotion. Truth is, one small action can git to ripplin’ farther than we ever imagined. And that there’s exactly where our scripture journey is takin’ us today.
Romans 5:19 says, “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.” And to deepen this here truth more, let’s weave in Joshua 24:15, which says, “Choose you this day whom ye will serve.” That there verse reminds us that every choice, big or small, sets a real direction. One decision can sho’-nuff’ shape a life, a family, or even a generation.
Adam’s choice plum opened the door to sin. Jesus’ choice sho’-nuff’ opened the door to righteousness. One man’s disobedience plum brought separation. One Man’s obedience plum brought salvation. And, friend, your choices carry some serious weight, too. They may not feel grand. They may git to feelin’ small as a lil’ noisy cricket chirpin’ under a porch step. But God uses obedience the way an ol’ farmer uses seed. What looks mighty tiny today can grow into somethin’ mighty big tomorrow.
Think about it. Imagine if Moses hadn’t lifted his rod. Imagine if Rahab hadn’t opened her door. Imagine if Mary hadn’t yielded to God’s plan. Imagine if Peter hadn’t cast his net one more time. Imagine if Paul hadn’t picked up his pen. And imagine if Jonah hadn’t finally listened, even after runnin’ like a lil’ ol’ spooked deer. One choice. One moment. One “yes” or “no”. And that there ripple reaches farther than a flooded creek runnin’ after a real heavy rain.
Friend, obedience isn’t always flashy. Sometimes it plum feels about as inconvenient as an ol’ rooster crowin’ at the wrong time of day. But God sho’-nuff’ sees it. God sho’-nuff’ honors it. And God sho’-nuff’ uses it. Joshua 24:15 reminds us that every day is a fresh chance to choose well. So, choose obedience. Choose surrender. Choose to follow the Spirit’s nudgin’ even when it feels real small.
Father, help me choose obedience today. Make me sensitive to Your Spirit and quick to respond. Use my choices to bless others and honor You. Strengthen my heart to follow Your lead in every moment. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Alright then, friend, as you step back into the wide world of your day, slip this truth into your pocket like a smooth river stone you found on a walk and just couldn’t leave behind. Courage doesn’t always roar like an ol’ bull that thinks it owns the pasture. Sometimes it hums quiet like a cricket hidin’ under a porch board, steady and persistent. And obedience ain’tjust some delicate thing that snaps like a twig under a heavy boot. It’s more like a faithful old windmill that keeps turnin’ even when the sky can’t decide what it wants to do. When you choose to follow Jesus, your steps ripple farther than you can see, shapin’ moments, shapin’ hearts, and shapin’ futures. So, walk on, friend, with your eyes lifted and your soul plum anchored because the One who calls you is already out ahead of you clearin’ the path like a bright lantern shinin’ in the dark.
With joy,
Gwen
