The Safest Place to be Standin’
Well, friend, look at you showin’ up today like good news knockin’ on my front door. Come on up here on this porch and sit a spell. Now, if worry were an Olympic sport, most of us would have more medals than a prize hog at the county fair. We fret like a squirrel that buried a nut and can’t remember where he put it. But right in the middle of all that frettin’, Ephesians 1:11 reminds us that God “works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will.” And Psalm 138:8 leans in to say, “The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me.” That there means God isn’t wingin’ it. He isn’t guessin’. He isn’t hopin’ things turn out alright. He has a plan, and He’s workin’ it out with more precision than a beaver buildin’ a dam before winter hits.
I once heard a man say there are only two things to worry about. Whether you’re healthy or sick. If you’re healthy, you’ve got nothin’ to worry about. If you’re sick, you’ll either get better or worse. If you get better, nothin’ to worry about. If you get worse, you’ll either live or die. If you live, nothin’ to worry about. If you die and you know Jesus, friend, you really don’t have anything to worry about. It’s funny, but it points to a deeper truth. There are really only two things worth concernin’ yourself with. Whether you’re in God’s will or whether you’re not.
If you’re in God’s will, you don’t have anything to worry about. Not a shorter list. Not a lighter load. Nothing. Because when you’re aligned with the One who holds the universe steady, what exactly is left to fear? He’s handling your future. He’s directing your steps. He’s working all things together for good, just like Romans 8:28 promises.
And if you’re not in His will, that’s the only thing worth worryin’ about. Not the weather. Not the economy. Not whether that raccoon in your yard is plottin’ a takeover. Just get aligned with Him. Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Worry plum loses its power when obedience takes its place.
Being in the center of God’s will is the safest, steadiest, most peace‑filled place you can stand.
Father, help me rest in Your will. Teach me to trust Your plan when mine feels shaky. Pull my heart back into alignment when I drift. Fill me with peace that comes from knowin’ You’re in control. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Ok, friend, as you leave to get back to the cares of your day, remember that worry’s like a rooster tryin’ to crow at midnight. It makes a whole lot of noise, but it flat don’t change a doggone thing. God’s will is your shelter, your anchor, and your steady ground. Walk in it, stay in it, and watch your worries start shrinkin’ like a muddy puddle in the July sunshine.
With joy,
Gwen
