The Plan Behind the Pain

Well, hello there! I’m mighty thankful that you stopped by for a lil’ visit, friend. So, step right up on this ol’ front porch and claim a seat that has eavesdropped on more conversations and giggles than an ol’ picnic table at a church potluck. Some truths git to landin’ a whole lot softer when we talk ‘em out where the breeze carries the smell of fresh cut grass and the crickets sound like they’re holdin’ choir practice. Job 42:1-2 tells us, “I know that You can do everything, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.” That there verse reminds us that God’s plans don’t wobble, even when ours fall apart like an ol’ rickety wagon on a gravel road.

Job is famous for patience, but, friend, he wasn’t exactly sittin’ quietly like no polite lil’ ol’ church mouse. He sho’-nuff’ defended himself, questioned everything, and wrestled with God until the Lord revealed His greatness to him. Only then did Job plum surrender. Trouble has a way of testin’ our faith. Second Corinthians 5:7 tells us to “Walk by faith and not by sight,” but sight sho’-nuff’ does git to hollerin’ real loud when life feels plum trampled by a herd of ol’ goats wearin’ work boots.

Joseph understood this, too. In Genesis 45:4-8, he told his brothers not to be angry because God had sent him ahead to preserve life. Imagine that. Sold into slavery, falsely accused, thrown into prison, forgotten, and yet, Joseph saw God’s fingerprints plum all over his story. He sho’-nuff realized that his sufferin’ hadn’t been wasted. It’d been woven into a purpose a whole lot bigger than betrayal, famine, or fear.

Sometimes our own trials feel like we’re plum standin’ right in the middle of an open field after a storm, lookin’ at broken branches and wonderin’ how anything good could ever come from all the mess. But Psalm 37:23 gives us another layer of hope by sayin, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.” Even when the path gits to feelin’ real crooked, God is still leadin’.

Faith ain’t pretendin’ everything is fine. Faith is plum trustin’ that God is workin’ even when the ol’ barn door is hangin’ plum sideways, the chickens are fussin’, and the raccoon that raided your pantry looks entirely too satisfied. Faith sees what eyes can’t. It believes what circumstances deny. It receives what only God can give.

Father, thank You for being sovereign over every part of our story. Help us to trust Your purposes when life feels confusing and heavy. Teach us to walk by faith, surrender our defenses, and rest in Your wisdom. Strengthen our hearts and steady our steps. Complete the work You are doing in us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Alright then, friend, don’t you be lettin’ trouble convince you that God has stepped plum off the job. He’s still right there with you writin’ chapters while you’re standin’ right in the middle of the page. What plum looks like a setback today may become tomorrow’s testimony. Just as Joseph saw real purpose in pain, and Job found surrender in revelation, you’ll see God’s hand right in the middle of your story, too. And long after the lil’ fireflies fade out and the night creatures git settled down, His faithfulness will still be whisperin’ through every part of your life.

With joy,

Gwen
