The Gift Behind Every Paycheck

Hey there, friend, and bless my boots! Look at you strollin’ up on this porch like you just heard there was fresh pie coolin’ on the windowsill. Come on up here and sit a spell. If you could see that ol’ rooster over yonder struttin’ across the yard like he owns the whole county, you’d know the Lord has a wonderful sense of humor about the creatures He’s made. So, settle yourself in real good, friend. We’re about to take a lil’ ol’ walk into a truth that’ll stick to your heart like burrs on a hound dog’s tail.

Deuteronomy 8:17-18 reminds us, “It is God who gives us the ability to produce wealth.” Now that there’s a truth that’ll stop a person quicker than a lil’ ol’ goat that just realized it climbed too high. We like to think our paycheck came from our grit and elbow grease. We show up, we work hard, and we figure we earned every doggone penny. But take a step back. Who gave you the mind to learn your trade? Who gave you the strength to show up? Who gave you breath in your lungs and rhythm in your heartbeat? Friend, even the ability to earn is downright a gift.

James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift comes from above.” That there means your skills, your opportunities, your creativity, your stamina, and even your stubborn determination are all wrapped up in God’s generosity. And here’s a fresh verse to deepen this truth. Psalm 115:14 says, “May the Lord cause you to flourish, both you and your children.” That verse fits this message like a squirrel fits a pecan tree. God ain’t just giving you the ability. He is givin’ you increase, growth, and blessin’ that reaches way beyond you.

This here changes how we hold our resources. If it all came from Him, then clutchin’ it real tight makes about as much sense as a lil’ ol’ raccoon tryin’ to guard a creek. Generosity ain’t about impressin’ God. It’s about acknowledgin’ reality. It’s plum sayin’, “Lord, this here came from You, and I’m givin’ back because I know whose it really is.”

You didn’t build this alone. You couldn’t have. Remember where it came from. And give accordingly.

Lord, thank You for every ability, every opportunity, and every blessing. Teach me to hold my resources with open hands and a grateful heart. Help me remember that all I have is Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Well friend, look at you plum sittin’ here with that thoughtful spark in your eyes. As you step off this porch, let the Lord steady your steps the way a strong oak tree stands firm even when the wind gets mighty bossy. You don’t need a whole wagonload of inspiration. Just carry the one truth He tucked into your heart today. God gave you the ability, He gave you the increase, and He’ll guide you in how to use it well. Now go on and meet the rest of your day with the quiet confidence of someone who knows the Lord Himself is walkin’ right beside them.

With joy,

Gwen
