The Blessin’ in the Crumbs

Well, come on over here and call me grateful! Git yo’-self settled in on this here real comfy front porch swing, lil’ junebug. God’s own good timing is perfect and always right on time, even when ours is wobblier than a newborn calf ‘a-tryin’ to stand. And tucked right inside Mark 7:28, we meet a woman who understood that better than most: “Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” Now, jellybean, that’s faith with its work boots on.

Jesus had wandered outside His usual stompin’ grounds, and here comes this lil’ mama all desperate, determined, and humble as a hound dog ‘a-waitin’ politely under the supper table. Her little girl was tormented by an impure spirit, and she didn’t come with fancy credentials or a “Do You Know Who I Am?” kind o’ attitude. Nope, she done come like most of us come when life knocks the wind out of us so that we feel a mite needy, tired, and ‘a-hangin’ on by a thread.

And bless her heart, she wasn’t ‘a-askin’ for a whole loaf of God’s goodness. She knew just one lil’ ol’ crumb from Jesus could do more’n all the world’s solutions stacked higher than hay bales in July. And wouldn’t you know it, that there lil’ ol’ crumb was ‘zactly enough.

It’s just like what we’ve been ‘a-readin’ in Psalm 145:16, “You open Your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.” My stars, friend, every living thing, why, that’s even the ones who feel like they’ve been ‘a-livin’ off crumbs. God’s hand is open, real generous-like, and right on time.

Jesus never turned away the humble, but those’ a-struttin’ around all puffed up with pride got sent ‘a-packin’ quicker’n a turkey caught ‘a-trespassin’ on Thanksgiving week. This here woman knew she wasn’t no part of the “chosen people club,” but somehow the Spirit was ‘a-whisperin’ to her heart, “He’s ‘a-seein’ you. He’s ‘a-carin’ about you. So, go to askin’ Him anyway.” And she sho’ ‘nuff did. And mercy me, her daughter was done healed right then and there on the spot.

Are we ‘a-willin’ to come to Jesus just like that? No pretense, no polish, no pretendin’ we’ve got it all together like one of them there Pinterest barn weddin’s? Matthew 5:23–24 reminds us that humility and reconciliation matter. And when folks won’t reconcile, Matthew 18:15–17 gives us a path, but even then, we gotta be ‘a-trustin’ God’s time clock like a farmer trusts the sunrise.

Truth is, Jesus loves ‘a-doin’ miracles with folks who show up all honest, hungry, and humble-like. He’s gonna take yo’ messy problems, yo’ needs, yo’ crumbs and turn ’em right on into somethin’ real beautiful.

Father, please accept my humble plea and meet me at every turn. I confess that I am needy, Lord, and You are the precious Bread of Life. Shape my heart, steady my steps, and help me trust Your perfect timing. I pray this in the holy name of Jesus. Amen.

Well, I reckon that’s there’s enough crumb‑gatherin’ for today. Now go on out there in this here ol’ world, friend. You gotta keep on ‘a- trustin’ God’s timin’ like a barn cat is ‘a-trustin’ a sunny windowsill. He’s ‘a-gonna take care of you! His blessin’s is ‘a-comin’, and they’re, oh, so much warmer and satisfin’ than a big ol’ piece of hot, buttered cornbread fresh outta the oven.

With joy,

Gwen
