Stormproof Faith
Come on up on this ol’ front porch, friend. Even the breeze paused a moment, hopin’ you would stop by and sit a spell. I’m mighty glad you decided to stop by today. Settle yourself into a rocker, listen to the breeze rustle through the grass like a choir of woodsy critters tunin’ up for an evenin’ service, and let God’s Word steady your heart. Acts 27:25 says, “So take courage. For I believe God. It will be just as He said.” That there truth stands shoulder to shoulder with Psalm 112:7, which tell us, “They will have no fear of bad news. Their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” Together them verses remind us that storms may git to howlin’, waves may git to slappin’ the sides of our boat, and obstacles may git to poppin’ up like stubborn ol’ goats blockin’ a garden gate, but God’s promises hold real firm.
Friend, folks often think that if they’re walkin’ in God’s will, life ought to glide along smoother than a catfish slidin’ through a muddy creek. But Scripture shows us somethin’ real different. Doors slam. Obstacles rise. Storms roar like a mean ol’ bear that got woken up way too early. And right in the middle of all that mess, God calls us to trust Him.
Paul understood this better than most folks. Acts 27 tells us he was headin’ to Rome, not for a vacation, but for a trial. Even so, he saw the voyage as a chance to share the gospel with powerful Roman officials. You’d think the Lord might give him calm seas and gentle breezes. No! Instead, a storm rose up so fierce that the sailors thought they were done for. But not Paul. Oh, no! He stood real steady, real anchored in God’s promise, and declared, “Take courage. For I believe God. It will be just as He said.”
And, friend, that there’s where Psalm 112:7 slips in like a warm lantern glowin’ on a dark night sayin’, “The righteous do not fear bad news because their hearts are steadfast.” They trust the Lord even when the wind howls like an ol’ hungry coyote that spotted supper. God don’t promise no airlift out of trouble. Romans 8:35-37 remind us that “in all these things we are more than conquerors.” Not around them. Not instead of them. But right in them.
If you’re seekin’ to obey the Lord, expect opposition. Expect obstacles. Expect difficulties. But also expect God to see you through. And just like national leaders stand in the arena facin’ criticism from every direction, our Christian leaders need our prayers and support as they face spiritual battles meant to wear ‘em down.
Father, steady our hearts in every storm. Teach us to trust Your promises when obstacles rise. Strengthen our leaders and help us support them with prayer and encouragement. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Well, friend, the porch breeze has whispered all the wisdom it can for today, so you step on out and let the Lord guide your path like sunlight spillin’ through a quiet forest trail. May your courage rise like an barn owl takin’ flight at dusk. May your hope stretch wide like a meadow after a slow, spring rain. May your trust in God’s promises take their root way down deep like an old oak tree that refuses to topple over. Now go on and face your day downright knowin’ He will do just as He said.
With joy,
Gwen
