Sent Ahead on Purpose

Well, land sakes, friend, come on up here on this ol’ front porch and let me be tellin’ you, it does my heart real good to see you walkin’ in like a mighty fresh breeze driftin’ through a mountain holler. So, pull up that rocker right there, the one that creaks like an opinionated ol’ barn door, and settle yourself in good. Looky yonder at that plump lil’ ol’ woodchuck waddlin’ across the yard like it’s real late for choir practice. If that sight don’t make you git to grinin’, it sure reminds us that God sho’-nuff’ knows how to tuck a lil’ extra joy right on into the strangest corners of our day.

Genesis 45:5 says, “And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.” And Psalm 105:17 says, “He sent a man before them, Joseph, sold as a slave.” Friend, that there’s God’s way of sayin’, “I can turn the worst detour into the best deliverance.”

Now let’s help with the scootin’ off of that curious lil’ ol’ squirrel that wandered up here lookin’ for a front row seat that might gain him a pecan or two from that pail over there, and let’s git right to the heart of the matter. Joseph’s life looked more tangled than a lil’ squirrel nest in a windstorm. Betrayed by brothers, sold off like a used plow, accused by someone that had more drama than a barnyard goose, and tossed into prison. Yet through every twist, God was quietly stitchin’ together a mighty good rescue plan. Joseph didn’t pretend the hurt was small. He didn’t sugarcoat the betrayal. But he plum chose to see God’s hand movin’ through the mess. In Genesis 45:7, he says, “God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.”

Friend, what if your detour is not a disaster but a divine setup? What if the pain you’re carryin’ is preparation for someone else’s salvation? What if years from now you’ll look back and see that every twist, turn, bump, and pothole was part of a plan that only God could see from the start? Romans 8:28 reminds us that, “God works all things together for good for those that love Him.” Even the parts that feel like an ol’ runaway mule plowin’ right through your plans.

Father, help me trust You in every detour. Teach me to see Your hand even when the road feels rough. Use my story to bless others and let Your purpose shine through every twist and turn. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Alright now, friend, as you carry this truth into your day, let God’s purpose be settlin’ in your heart like a calm pond after a summer storm. Let His guidance steady you like a sturdy fence post sunk deep in good soil. Let hope rise in you like fresh cornbread risin’ in a warm oven. And remember, when God sends you ahead, He ain’t never late, never careless, and never finished writin’ the kind of story that turns detours into His divine deliverance.

With joy,

Gwen
