Run to the Tower

Hey, it’s sure good to git to see you here, friend! Why don’t you just step up on this ol’ front porch like a lil’ ol’ dragonfly that decided it needed a break from buzzin’ over the pond? That little critter zips around like it is runnin’ errands for the Lord. And sometimes we do the same thing. We rush from one worry to another, hopin’ our own ideas will keep us afloat, only to realize we’re hoverin’ over trouble instead of findin’ shelter. But Proverbs 18:10 settles over us like a cool shade tree on a blisterin’ hot afternoon. It says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and are safe.” And Nahum 1:7 says, “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble.” That verse is like catchin’ sight of a butterfly restin’ on a fence post remindin’ you that beauty shows up even when you’re not lookin’ for it.

Back in Bible times, folks trusted towers and walls to keep ‘em safe. Jericho had fortifications thicker than a stubborn ol’ mule’s skull, yet those walls fell flat when God stepped in. Psalm 61:3-4 reminds us that God Himself is our shelter and strong tower. Wealth, status, and earthly security may look real impressive, but they plum crumble faster than a lil’ ol’ scarecrow in a windstorm. Proverbs 18:11 says the rich man thinks his wealth is a high wall, but that wall is about as dependable as a lil’ ol’ grasshopper that promises it’ll sit still for more than two seconds.

Friend, God’s name is your refuge. His character is sho’-nuff’ your protection. His presence is your shelter. You don’t have to hide in your bank account, your achievements, or your own strength. You hide in the Rock of Ages. Second Corinthians 5:17 tells us that if any person is in Christ, they are a new creature. Old things have passed away. All things have become new. That means your safety just ain’t built on what you can build. It’s plum built on who He is. And when fear tries to flutter around your mind like a butterfly that can’t decide where to land, you can run straight into the strong tower of God’s name.

Father, thank You for bein’ my strong tower, my shelter, and my refuge. Teach me to run to You first, trust Your protection, and rest in Your strength. Keep my heart anchored in Your name and not in the shaky things of this world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Alright then, friend, before you move on out to whatever comes next, let this here truth settle into your spirit the way a quiet valley settles when the last echo finally fades. God’s protection will surround you with the steady calm of an ol’ tortoise that knows exactly where it is goin’. His presence will meet you in places as surprising as a dragonfly hoverin’ over a puddle like it’s inspectin’ the scenery. And His strength will rise in your life with the boldness of a sunrise that paints the sky before the lil’ ol’ rooster remembers to crow in the mornin’. Walk on ahead with faith. You ain’t hidin’ in the world’s flimsy shelters. You’re plum restin’ in the strong tower of the almighty, living God.

With joy,

Gwen
