Quit Starin’ Through the World’s Lookin’ Glass
My stars, Buttercup, you step right on up to this here front porch where you can be ‘a-listenin’ to those lil’ ol’ tinklin’ wind chimes over there by the honeysuckle vines ‘cause they’re ‘a-soundin’ like they are ‘a-tryin’ to warn you ‘bout somethin’ before the rooster even gits to wakin’ up. We’re ‘bout to be ‘a-wandein’ oer’ into Colossians 2:8, which done says, “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy.” And right alongside that, Isaiah 26:3 done reminds us, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.” That there is the Bible’s way of ‘a-sayin’ don’t be ‘a-lettin’ your mind get snatched up like a loose chicken ‘a-runnin’ straight into a fox convention. You’re ‘a-needin’ a good, solid, Scripture-soaked worldview, not one that’s done been built on fear, fussin’, or whatever the evenin’ news is ‘a-hollerin’ about.
Now, listen here, Buttercup, everybody done looks at the world through some kind o’ lens, which is that there lookin’ glass you done be ‘a-seein’ life through. Some folks are ‘a-lookin’ through that there politics lens. Some look through the economics lens. Some done look through the lens of fear, an’ it’s so doggone thick you could spread it on a biscuit. But believers are done called to be ‘a-lookin’ through the lens of Scripture. When you start ‘a-seein’ the world ‘a-gettin’ shakier than a newborn calf ‘a-standin’ on an icy pond, you ain’t got to start to panicin’. You gotta be ‘a-rememberin’ that God is sovereign over all nations. Jesus done already told us in Matthew 24 that certain things must be ‘a-happenin’. The Bible done lays out all them there players, patterns, and promises real good. We done already be ‘a-knowin’ jes’ how the story is gonna be ‘a-endin’.
So, when the world gits to lookin’ like it is ‘a-spinnin’ faster than a squirrel on espresso, don’t you be ‘a-lettin’ fear be ‘a-takin’ the steerin’ wheel from you. You gotta be ‘a-lettin’ God’s Word be ‘a-doin’ the interpretin’. A Biblical worldview don’t remove every question, but it sure does remove the panic. You done know who is ‘a-holdin’ the future, and He’s not ‘a-pacin’ the floors of heaven ‘a-wringin’ His hands.
You gotta stop ‘a-lettin’ cable news shape your emotions like a clay potter with a bad attitude. Stop ‘a-lettin’ social media yank your peace ‘round like a lil’ ol’ goat on a real short rope. Git yourself to studyin’ real deep into Scripture. Be ‘a-lettin’ God tell you what’s happenin’. Then, be ‘a-watchin’ the world through that lens, steady as an ol’ mule ‘a-walkin’ on a steep mountain trail.
Lord, help me be ‘a-keepin’ my eyes fixed on Your Word instead of the world’s noise. Be ‘a-steadyin’ my heart when things look shaky. Be ‘a-teachin’ me to see events through Scripture, so I can be ‘a-walkin’ in peace, confidence, and trust. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now, Buttercup, you gotta be ‘a-thinkin’ ‘bout things as you step off this here porch and back into your day. This here ol’ world may be ‘a-lookin’ as mixed up as a box of ol’ bullfrogs, but God ain’t one bit confused. You gotta be ‘a-lettin’ Scripture be your compass, not your scary panic button. You gotta be ‘a-keepin’ your heart anchored, your mind clear, and your faith planted deeper than a fence post in quick-dryin’ cement. When you done be ‘a-lookin’ through God’s lens, you gonna be ‘a-seein’ the world with peace instead o’ fear, purpose instead o’ panic, and hope instead o’ heaviness.
With joy,
Gwen
