Protected Every Time

Well now, would you look at that, friend? Howdy-do! You’ve done wandered up here on this ol’ front porch right when my thoughts was beggin’ for some real good company. Pull up one of them rockers over yonder and settle yourself a lil’ ol’ moment. I’ve done been thinkin’ about David this mornin’, that lil’ ol’ shepherd boy turned king who knew God’s protection the way a wise ol’ barn owl knows every branch in the woods.

David had seen God rescue him from lions, bears, giants, enemies, and even from the weight of his own mistakes. So, when he cried out in Psalm 140:6-7, “You are my God. Listen to my cries for mercy. You protected me on the day of battle,” he was downright speakin’ from experience, not theory.

Well, David trusted God so deeply that he plum walked onto a battlefield in shepherd’s clothes while a big ol’ giant strutted around in armor thicker than a hog’s hide. He didn’t brag about his aim or his strength. He simply said in First Samuel 17:46, “This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands.” Friend, that there’s confidence born from rememberin’ what God has already done.

Nahum 1:7 says, “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.” That there means God don’t just rescue us. He plum shelters us. He sho’-nuff’ carries our burdens the way a sturdy ol’ mule carries a heavy load up a mountain trail. He downright invites us to place everything on Him, just like David did.

You may not be facin’ a giant, but maybe you are facin’ a worry that keeps right on nippin’ at your heels like a pesky lil’ ol’ sheep dog puppy playfully learnin’ how to make its way. Maybe it’s a job concern, a family ache, or a fear that just won’t hush up. Scripture plum tells us in Psalm 55:22, “Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you.” And He sho’-nuff’ will. He plum always has. He downright always will.

Father, thank You for carryin’ our burdens and protectin’ us in every battle. Thank You for remindin’ us that You are our refuge and strength. Help us trust You the way David did. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Well, alright now, friend, you go on now and let this here truth git to settlin’ in your heart like warm sunlight spreadin’ across your face in the early mornin’ when you’re sittin’ out on the porch here. You’ve gotta be rememberin’ that God has done carried you, rescued you, and steadied your steps all across the years. So, keep right on handin’ Him your burdens, keep right on trustin’ His strength, and keep right on walkin’ with the confidence that the same God who guarded David is right there guardin’ you, too.

With joy,

Gwen
