Our Hearts Will Rejoice in Him
Well, butter my skillet and straighten that porch mat, friend. Look at you wanderin’ up here like you just stepped out of a mulberry thicket and spotted a lil’ cabin so invitin’ even that plump lil’ ol’ chipmunk by the rosebush has paused mid‑scurry like it’s tryin’ to offer you a polite lil’ nod. I’m sho’-nuff tickled you made your way by here. Go on and settle yourself in the way a gentle ol’ dove settles onto a quiet branch even when a curious lil’ dragonfly keeps zippin’ circles around its head like it’s inspectin’ the whole neighborhood.
Psalm 33:21 tells us, “Our hearts rejoice in Him because we trust His holy name.” That kind of joy ain’t flimsy or fickle. It’s sturdy. It’s the kind that shows up even when life gets to feelin’ about as upside down as an ol’ wild turkey tryin’ to land gracefully on a fence rail. And Psalm 28:7 adds, “The Lord is my strength and my shield. My heart trusts in Him and I’m helped. My heart leaps for joy and with my song I praise Him.” That there erse reminds us that joy ain’t somethin’ we manufacture. It’s somethin’ God grows inside us when we lean our whole weight on Him.
Friend, life has a way of wanderin’ in sideways like a nosy ol’ hog that decides to nudge open a gate it had no business testin’. Some days twist themselves into shapes stranger than a silly lil’ goose tryin’ to march in a straight line while its whole flock fusses behind it. But Scripture reminds us rejoicin’ in the Lord ain’t tied to how tidy our circumstances look. Habakkuk 3:18 declares, “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord. I will be joyful in God my Savior.” That little word “yet” is the hinge of holy joy. It means even when the fields look plum empty, even when the plans fall through, even when the day feels about as scattered as a lil’ ol’ momma duck tryin’ to gather all its baby ducklings at once, our hearts can still rejoice because God Himself ain’t changed. Joy ain’t the echo of our circumstances. It’s plum the fruit of trust planted deep in the soil of God’s faithfulness.
Father, steady my heart when life gets heavy. Teach me to rejoice not in my circumstances but in Your faithfulness. Fill me with courage, hope, and holy confidence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Well now, friend, if that don’t warm the biscuits of your spirit, I don’t know what will. May the rest of your day stretch out like a sunlit trail invitin’ a sure‑footed ol’ deer toward open water. Step forward with the quiet courage of a lil’ butterfly liftin’ off a leaf trustin’ the breeze the Lord sends its way. And carry God’s joy with you the way a seasoned ol’ peacock carries its feathers, steady and unruffled, no matter what it, lands softly in the treetop. Let His gladness settle in your spirit like a lantern glowin’ soft on a cool mountain evenin’. And may your heart keep rejoicin’ in Him the way a meadow lark lifts its song at sunrise, sure and steady because it knows the light’s comin’.
With joy,
Gwen
