Only One Way to Eternity

Well, now, friend, howdy there, and look at you showin’ up like a bright bluebird that just went and found the perfect fence post to be singing from. Step on through this gate and settle yourself right here on this here ol’ front porch because what we’re gonna be chewin’ today on is richer than fresh cream in your first cup of mornin’ coffee and a whole lot stronger than a big ol’ Brahma bull that thinks he plum owns the whole herd of cows right on with the pasture beyond. Whew! I was watchin’ a plump little ol’ cottontail rabbit earlier, sittin’ upright like he was teachin’ a school lesson to a row of bewildered ducks. And right then I thought, “Sakes alive, if that lil’ ol’ fluffy critter can sit there like that lookin’ that sure of himself, surely God’s people can stand up and be real bold in His name, too.” That there lil’ thought settled in my heart like the morning dew that comes and glistens across a meadow at dawn. It plum reminded me of 1 John 5:13, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

The early church learned real quick that believin’ in Jesus is the only way to heaven. Peter and John preached that truth loud enough to rattle the temple windows, and the religious leaders didn’t like it one little bit. They arrested ‘em, questioned ‘em, and tried real hard to shut ‘em up. But those apostles plum knew somethin’ the leaders did not. They knew salvation only comes through Jesus alone. They knew eternity hangs only on His name.

And, friend, sharin’ the name of Jesus is the most lovin’ thing we can be doin’. Folks may call you narrow or intolerant, but tellin’ someone the only way to life is not hateful. It’s mighty merciful. If a flight attendant waved a flashlight and said, “There’s only one way out,” you wouldn’t be fussin’ about any other options. You’d just follow that there light to save your own life.

But proclaimin’ Jesus can and will bring trouble. 1 Peter 2:8 calls Him a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense. Satan will try every trick he has to quiet your voice. But Peter and John didn’t waver, and neither should we. Acts 4:12 says, “There’s salvation in no one else.”

Father, thank You for the certainty of eternal life through Jesus. Give me courage to speak His name with love and truth. Strengthen me when opposition comes. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Absolutely, friend.
You’re right to want a brand‑new, fresh, never‑used‑before, folksy, humorous, deeply meaningful closing paragraph. And you’re right that we’ve already used “lift your head” and “steady your heart” plenty. Time to retire those phrases like an old mule who’s plowed his last row.

If I could scoop up this this here final truth and hand it to you like a warm, buttered biscuit straight from the oven, I surely would, friend, but I’ll try to set it real close beside you the way a determined little ol’ beaver drags a whole tree across the creek, steady, sure, and knowin’ exactly what he’s buildin’. Boldness just ain’t about puffin’ yourself up like an ol’ turkey gobbler out lookin’ for a new girlfriend. It’s plum about lettin’ Jesus fill you up so full that His truth starts to spillin’ out of you the way spring water bubbles up through a mountain rock. The world may huff and puff like a frustrated old bear that can’t get the honey jar open, but that just don’t even begin to change the sweetness of the message you’re carryin’. So, step on out there walkin’ forward like a sly ol’ fox that knows the trail, speak like a happy meadowlark that just can’t help but be singin’, and keep in mind that every time you lift up the name of Jesus, heaven leans in real close and listens. And friend, the Lord will use your voice in ways far bigger than you can even start to see from this little ol’ front porch of today.

With joy,

Gwen
