Let God do the Talkin’

Well, land sakes alive, if waiting on God doesn’t sometimes feel like ‘a-watchin’ a possum try to make up its mind about crossin’ the road. You stand there, ‘a-holdin’ your breath, ‘a-wonderin’ if anything’s ever gonna happen, while heaven seems quieter than a church mouse ‘a-tiptoein’ past the offering plate. But bless our hearts, that’s exactly where God does some of His finest work, yep, right in the middle of our confusion, questions, and “Lord, what in the world are You ‘a-doin’?” moments.

You know how 2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” Well, buttercup, that verse is basically God ‘a-sayin’, “Calm down, child. I’m ‘a-workin’ on it,” the same way my granny used to holler from the kitchen when I asked for cornbread before it was done.

And let’s be honest here. When life gets confusing, we start ‘a-flappin’ our jaws like a hen who just discovered that the fox moved in next door. We try to explain God like we’re ‘a-workin’ in His PR department. Folks ask, “If God is love, why’d He let that happen?” And we feel like we gotta answer, defend, explain, interpret, translate, and maybe even draw a diagram.

But, pumkin’, sometimes the holiest, wisest, most spiritual answer is simply: “I don’t know.” If God wanted us to know everything, He’d have made our brains bigger than a squirrel’s pantry in November.

That’s why Proverbs 3:5–6 fits like overalls on a farm boy: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” In other words, stop ‘a-tryin’ to make sense of what only God can see from His porch swing in heaven. He’s got the full view. We’re just’ a-peekin’ through a knothole in the fence.

The truth is, your faith ain’t under attack, but God’s character is. And He doesn’t need us to defend Him like a chihuahua barking at a mailman ten times its size. He’s got His own defense system, and it’s called His Word.

Take Ezekiel 33:11, where God says He takes “no pleasure in the death of the wicked but wants them to turn and live.” That’s God’s heart right there, tender as a newborn calf and patient as a turtle ‘a-crossin’ a country road.

So, instead of ‘a-tryin’ to make sense of everything, let God speak for Himself. He’s better at it anyway. Trust that He’ll reveal His goodness in His Own timing, not ours. After all, He’s never been late; we’re just impatient.

Lord, help me quit ‘a-tryin’ to be Your spokesperson like I’m ‘a-runnin’ for office on Your behalf. Teach me to trust Your timing, Your Word, and Your heart. Give me peace when I don’t understand and faith when I can’t explain. Speak to those who doubt, and let Your truth settle into their hearts like sweet tea on a hot day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Well, I reckon that’s enough sharin’ of this lil’ barn‑burner blessing’ for one porch-sittin’, friend. Just remember: God’s patience is longer than a mule’s memory, and His promises are tougher than an ol’ hound dog ‘a-hangin’ on to a ham bone.. Now mosey on out there ‘a-walkin’ in that truth today.

With joy,

Gwen
